Two big issues I've been presented with at a very young age were over evolution and homosexuality.
In regard to evolution, I've taken classes, and been to seminars, and I admit, there's enough evidence there to not discredit it.
So can a Christian accept evolution? Because honestly, yes, I'm starting to accept certain evolutionary ideas.
Homosexuality:
I've been told by my parents/religious figures since childhood that homosexuals are not normal and homosexuality is a sinful choice (and yes, my "role models" have called them far worse things"
But, in my more recent research, I'm starting to lean more towards sexual orientation being biological, if this is the case, why would the Bible condemn homosexuals? Yes, I've read the passages.
An analogy I can think of is left-handed people.

In ancient times, left-handedness was considered an imperfection (like homosexuality), and people were "fixed."
Although the Bible does't comment on which hand is sinful, we know these days that it's biological.
So, in a sense, those ancient people were wrong to think it was an imperfection.

Let me clarify, I'm not saying the Biblical people "fixed" imperfect people.
I'm referring to the ancient cultures, like the Romans.
Basically, it was a different culture back then, they didn't have scientific explanations for everything.

Evolution: yes, you can believe in some parts of it, but you have to believe that God made humans as humans, not that we came from monkeys or goo or some other such thing. Believing that God made one type of dog and then all dog breeds came from it are fine.
Homosexuality: i too believe that it's in the genes. the bible however, says people who commit homosexual actions should be killed, not just people who feel a certain way towards people of the same sex. to live a homosexual lifestyle is a sin, being a homosexual is not.
hope this helps, it's what i believe anyway. i'll be praying that God will help you in these choices of your belief.
peace and God bless

Im tired to people not knowing what EVOLUTION means! It means that things can change for the better, evolve. Can you deny the fact that people in the poles are lighter skinned than the people who live near the equator?! NO you CANT! Jeesh
The Bible DOES NOT contradict or say anything about these minor scales of evolutions. What the Bible does say is that the world did not originate from a Big Bang, or from String Theory, It started exactly how it says it did in Genesis. Also, every living ORGANISM was created exactly how it said it was in Genesis. Afterwards, those creatures began to change beacuse the environment changed, and thus 'evolved'. The Bible actually shows some minor scale of evolution, so go ahead and believe in the minor scale evoluitions. BUT DON'T confuse that with "the theory of the origin of the universe" that so many scientists try to define and come up with nothing - reason being that they cannot make a theory that states that the universe was created, because this would violate the first law of thermodynamics, "Energy cannot be created nor destroyed", That is why its always called, the theory of EVOLUTION and not CREATION.
So, go ahead and believe in this minor scale evolutions, its perfectly side by side with christianity, but dont confuse it with other theorys and major scales of evolution, for we know how it got started.
God Bless you, and before you make a judgment as serious as this, go read some astrophysics and quantum physics, learn about it, then make an educated guess, don't take my word, or any other's word for it, find out for yourself.
Amen.

First of all, you can still be Christian and believe in Evolution, I think. The definition of a Christian is someone who believes that Jesus Christ died on the cross for our sins, giving us a free ticket to heaven. Honestly the whole Evolution/Creationism thing doesn't matter too much to me, I only read the New Testament.
Second of all, there are people out there that have biological makup that makes them more like the gender they're not. It's easier for these people to become homosexual because of hormones ect... But I know a 2 people who have simply changed from being homosexual to straight - for God. Will power is more powerful than hormones.
No matter what, don't give up Christ. :)

regarding your classes. It's likely that you were presented with proof for evolution based on presupositions that the world/universe is billions of years old. It's easy to extrapolate conclusions based on this presumption.
If you were to take the very same evidences that were presented to you and investigate them from the presuposition that God created it, you might come to a very different conclusion.
Creation vs evolution is not a scientific issue. It's a historical issue. And since history is not recorded before a few hundred years ago (if you are an atheist/agnostic) or before the bible was written, then the scientific conclusions that are attached to it are simply speculation. Realizing this makes both of them faith based.
Homosexuality. Again, the biology on homosexuality has not been proven. The left handed person does not have the choice to be wired that way. The homosexual born of either gender is already hard wired to be either male or female because of the nature of his/her sexual organs. And no - of course this doesn't take into account persons who are born without sexual organs or with abnormal ones.
Blessings :)

Evolution is certainly something that a Christian may assent to; it is not evolution as such that is problematic for a Christian, but the underlying athiestic attitude that goes along with it, namely that life is basically an accident. The account in Genesis of the creation of the world is a story showing that God did create everything, that God is the Lord of all, that the original Man and the original Woman sinned and fell from grace, thus requiring God's intervention for salvation. The Biblical account does not need to be taken perfectly literally in order to be considered perfectly true. It is true in exactly what it purported to teach; namely, those truths about God and man.
As far as homosexuality is concerned, something can be biologically-based without it being beneficial or "natural." Left-handed-ness is a benign example; what about those with genetic diseases? Surely THESE are not good and natural. My argument is simply that just because something is biological does not make it natural. Because of sin, we are all living to some extent in an "unnatural" world. Homosexuality, if it has some biological basis, could be compared to the drive to addictive behaviors. It is not beneficial, and acting on those impulses is disordered and may be sinful (depending on whether or not the person has mitigating circumstances). In any case, acting on homosexual tendencies is no better or worse than any other grave sin. A sexual sin is a sexual sin, and people have had trouble following God's rules on sexuality from pretty much the very beginning. Homosexuality is a difficult cross to bear, but it is a cross, and it must be borne. Christ will make available those graces which are required for salvation, just as He will for any other sinner (namely, all of us). There are those who, acting in an unloving and judgmental manner, might condemn homosexuals as being particularly depraved in some sense or another. I would be VERY wary of this view; we all know how strong the sexual drive can be in a human being; who is to say that the homosexual person who, in a moment of weakness, gives in to temptation is committing a more grievous sin in the eyes of the Lord than the person who callously condemns said person? We must all take care that we do not become like the Pharisee in the temple, thanking God that he is not like other men, and remember that we are ALL like the tax collector, beating his breast and begging that God will have mercy on him for his wretchedness. All of us are tempted to different things, and the devil picks our weakest points to attack. I would say that there is no shame in a homosexual tendency, but that like all sinful temptations, it must be brought to the cross, and help will be given to those seeking. May God have mercy on us all.

The evolutionary ideology is the naturalists attempt at explaining the complex universe we live in without God. There is little hard physical evidence to support evolution, as each major breakthrough along the lines is disproven or found as a hoax. In addition, there are many factors that are clearly visible today that limit the age of this earth to only thousands of years as opposed to billions. (take human population, the size of the sahara desert, the size of the great barrier reef and the unusually uniform layers of the grand canyon) The God of the universe created all the known and unknown universe and all that is within it.
As far as homosexuality goes, there is no clear and definitive evidence that it is either genetic, biological or that it is hereditary. However, there is much more evidence to link the behavior to much more external factors such as sexual abuse or the lack of a good family structure.

Well, as a person who grew up feeling like some kind of walking freak because of the beliefs I'd hear in church (Byzantine Catholic, for many years with a priest who was obviously gay) and the horrifying jokes my family loved to pop around... I can tell you it's biological.
I knew something was different about me early in kindergarten. Godmother used to always coo how cute it was when little girls had crushes on little boys... and I had this crush on this pretty gal who loved to torment kids by pinching the hooie out of 'em. It wasn't sexual then because I didn't understand sexuality at that age, I just was attracted to her strongly and never the boys. As I grew up, I wound up starting to hate myself because I was one of those kids who couldn't form friendships with some other gals without the feelings riding deeper. I hid who I was until long after adulthood and the military. TRUST ME... it was never a choice.
Your analogy is a good one... and one often used in the LGBT community, along with others.
I don't choose to be among those who are terrified to walk the streets because some hating homophobe would enjoy beating the crap out of me or killing me for who I am. I walk with this thought daily.
Hope this little testimony helps.

Evolution explains how some birds, for instance, developed thin beaks for digging insects out of wood, while others developed large crushing beaks for cracking open nuts. It cannot explain how a single celled organism can develop into a multi-celled organism, nor can it explain how a monkey supposedly developed into a man.
Homosexuality is a tough issue, because gay groups can't make up their minds. They say it's biological when they want protection from discrimination, but they don't want biologists to study whether there is a "gay" gene. If there is such a gene, we may be able to eventually test for it in the womb, or even treat it like other genetic disorders, but they don't want that. So then they say it's a preference, but they deny that people could be "broken" of the habit, so to speak.

I think if you are 'christian' because of the way you were brought up... you may want to make the choice to be Christian by reading the Word of God.... it is Holy and from cover to cover, truth.
lefthanded people maybe have been 'considered' imperfect back then... but nowhere in the word of God does it say that being lefthanded is a sin... unlike sexual sin, which is listed over and over, both in new and old testament.
and you have to choose either what God says... or what the world says... if you search information from christian scientists (do not confuse this with scientology, totally different) you will find just as much information proving that evolution is not true...
if it were, we would have the 'fossils' of the transitional beings... but we don't

I believe that God created upon this earth PRIOR TO Genesis 1:1-31, 2:1-3.
I believe God destroyed all prior creation (Gen.1:2) to bring forth man created in God's likeness (Gen.1:26), with an UNBROKEN lineage beginning with Adam.
