I believe the average high stake in blackjack is usually $5,000. But, if a person wanted to make a tremendously huge wager they would have to establish a line of credit which means they send the casino the money in a cashier's check at least one month in advance. Before arriving they call the Casino Manager and talk about a special table limit!

Whales, the Vegas term for people whose finances run in the millions or more, are well known and cultivate to gamble with free rooms, shows, etc. Whales have a line of credit and are expected to spend and gamble at extreme rates or they are asked to leave.

Recently the news released that Celene Deon's hubby spent more than a million a year on gamble.

It's not quite unlimited, but it's pretty close. The Travel Channel did a few shows about Las Vegas "whales", which is evidently their term for the super-super-rich who occasionally show up at their hotels. In the shows, they interviewed casino managers who explained what happens when multi-billionaires show up and want to play. To them, there are only 50-100 "whales" in the world - people who could actually bet enough on a blackjack hand to significantly affect the casino's profitability (some casino chains have publicly traded stock, so this can be a big deal, no pun intended).

The short answer is that they'll take almost any big bet, even from a super-rich person. But if Bill Gates showed up and wanted to bet a billion on a hand, the casino would turn him down to protect itself and its stockholders.

standard blackjack maximums on the strip range between $5000 and $10000. the Golden Nugget in downtown will take up to $15000 even if they've never seen you before.

once a casino is familiar with you and is not afraid of your action (i.e. not counting cards or outright cheating in some way), then any wager amount proposed may be accepted by management. seven-figure bets are certainly not unheard of in vegas - the late Benny Binion was said to never shy away from any large single bet at his small but legendary casino, Binion's Horseshoe.

If you have the cash, you can get whatever limits you want. High end casinos like Bellagio regularly have tables with $5000 max bets in the high stakes area, and they will give you any stakes you want if you have the cash and you ask them.

Most common tables have either a 5000 or 10,000 max bet but you can bet as much as you want if you have the money to. The sky's the limit
