You... don't.

ISO is a disc image format, and AVI is a video file format.

You are probably using Nero, which tells you that it can't convert the AVI small enough to the DVD. Correct?

The problem is Nero. Use a tool like VSO Divx2DVD (it's free, really) which will convert the AVI into a DVD folder for you. Then burn that folder, and voila, you have a playable DVD, don't even need DVDShrink (in most cases).

you should probably get a nero or some other dvd burning software that can also convert avi files to dvd. Nero will take your avi and convert it dvd, there has to be other prorgams that will do that also but I haven't used any for a long time so I dont know, just look for a dvd burning software and see if it converts files from avi to dvd

Actually Dvd shrink will also open dvd standard vob files. You can snag like winavi make the avi file into dvd standard vob format then use dvd shrinks open files option and point it to the vob folder you made out of the avi to shrink.
