For example if I want to quote this out of a book
The dog ran inside and I screamed, "Watch out for the dog!"

Would I quote that like

a) "The dog ran inside and I screamed, "Watch out for the dog!""
or
b)"The dog ran inside and I screamed, 'Watch out for the dog!' "

It should be as follows:

"The dog ran inside and I screamed, 'Watch out for the dog!'"

Use the apostrophe (single quotation mark) for the internal quote.

Use 'b'. That is the proper grammer. And it's nice to see people using the right format.
