I think it's the thought that it's a needle and a hypodermic needle is a needle - therefore, they get lumped into the same category. I have a needle phobia from a bad childhood event and have almost fainted during a blood test before, but I was able to get a tattoo. When people say "oh you should be able to handle this...blah, blah" It is often because to a person that doesn't have tattooes, it would be the same thing because they don't have direct experience as to what it feels like or exactly what getting a tattoo entails. To them, a needle is a needle...

I dont know cause its a completely different feeling getting a tattoo with a tattoo gun needle then getting a shot at the doctors office. I prefer the tattoo ..atleast when its over I got something pretty to look at.. instead of a bruised bandaged arm ha ha

I don't have the fear of needles that some do, but I'm a little uncomfortable around them. Tattoo needles don't even register as such. In my little lizard brain, they qualify as something scratchy and ragged, which doesn't register as anything other than somewhat annoying.
And even if most of the pain receptors are near the surface, there's the point that they don't have all the same stimuli, and not *all* of them are at the surface.
Tattoo needles might hit more pain nerves, but the discomfort associated with an injection needle heightens the nastiness of the situation.

I have some tattoos myself and it is a difference between a tattoo needle and a shot from the doctor. The only point they are looking at is that it's a needle and it's puncturing the skin! eventhough when we get shots it goes in further than the needle from a tattoo.

You are right. I get tired of hearing " you shouldn't mind a shot, look at your tattoos. This want even bother you" there is a difference. A fast needle pricking under your skin or a hand pushed needle going 2 inches into your body.

isn't this a wierd one? I thoroughly comprehend nonetheless.... I even have six tattoos and at one time had sixteen piercings, yet can not stand the assumption of a shot. on an identical time as maximum persons have a terror of needles, that may not precisely mine. i certainly dislike the sensation of the injection itself. possibly different persons have fears that are comparable and persons in basic terms make the thought that's a terror of the needle?

I dont know! My husband HATES needles. Hypodermic needles that is. And whenever the doctor or dentist wants to give him a shot, he refuses. Then they say you have tattoos, you should be used to needles. Dude, I agree with you, it is totally different!

I am totally afraid of shots but my tats where like pinches and the vibration puts me to sleep. I really hate it when nurses get to digging into your skin and leaving those big red wholes it hurts so bad.
