I am a Jeff Gordon fan too. Non-fans are jealous of his popularity and his talent to win. I get sick and tired of people saying that Gordon is a whiner, I have never heard him whine during an interview. He says the same things as most other drivers and if he's a whiner then they all are. People hate Gordon for the same reason a lot of people hate the New York Yankees. They're just too doggone good. Enough said!
To those of you who hate Jeff because he ennuciates, that is called proper grammar and there is nothing wrong with that. I work with young children therfore I would like for them to learn the proper way of speaking. Now that's enough said (actually written).

First of all, Jeff Gordon is a great driver. Nobody, even the fans that hate him, can take that away from him or say otherwise. And, for the record, I'm not a Jeff Gordon fan. But, I will give him credit.

As to why he is so hated, here are some of the top reasons:

1) He's succeeded in winning as many races as Dale Eanhardt. A lot of loyal #3 fans didn't want for that to happen.

2) He's not from the South. NASCAR has been reaching out to a broader fan base, and has moved racing venues from their traditional southern tracks to tracks to the west. The long and loyal southern fans don't like this, and they don't like the "Golden Boy" who they see as an intruder in their sport.

3) A lot of fans thought that Jeff Gordon was a whooped little boy for letting Brooke Gordon lead him around like Paris Hiltons puppy. (Personally, I think any man who says that they wouldn't knock booties with her is a liar).

Plain and simple. He started on the seen as a punk driver and he had an ego the size of CALIFORNIA. Anyway, as I just told another person, over the years Jeff has gotten grounded and earned some respect.

It has taken a long time and people hate dominators these days. I am not a fan but can respect his experience and talent.

Good luck with your answers.

First of all, don't worry about what other people think about YOUR favorite driver. He's your driver and as a NASCAR fan, you will need a thick skin because the people who pick on your driver are relentless.

For a little background on why Gordon gets booed at the racetrack.

It all began when he made a lot of Ford fans angry, when he left Ford's driver development program and went to drive a Chevy owned by a notorious Honda dealer. Ford fans have long memories and hold grudges.

Strike 1!

When long time fans got a look at his background at his age, nobody knew if he was just a well-honed driving machine or if he had any real talent. He quickly proved he was a well-honed driving machine with talent in a fast car. Immediate success with no dues paid.

Strike 2!

He got more boos than Earnhardt Sr. and Earnhardt fans hated that. We always liked the boos as it made us smile for we knew Earnhardt relished in giving the fans something to boo about.

Strike 3!

Now, the important thing for you to remember is that it is not unusual for successful drivers to get booed. If you like a driver for, any reason, that is all that matters.

In nearly 50 years of being a NASCAR fan, I can truly say that I can count the drivers I have actually despised, on 1 finger.

No names but his initials are GB. After all, I don't want to unnecessarily upset anyone and most of his fans are probably smart enough to figure it out, anyway.

I don't pull for Gordon and will pull against him virtually always, although at Martinsville, I was kind of pulling for him --- to move Johnson out of the way for the win.

Alas, another chance at gaining a little respect goes by the wayside. I for one, would have loved to see a 4 time Champ move Johnson out of the way for a win that would have tied Earnhardt's 76 on the 28th anniversary of Earnhardt's first Cup win. Now that would have been a memorable win. In 3 years, nobody will remember Marty, Spring '07.

If Gordon had won with a bump and run, we would be talking about it 30 years from now.

You see, more than half the fun is rooting against some drivers while pulling for others under some very differing circumstances. It can be just as much fun watching your second least favorite driver beat your first least favorite driver.

If Gordon had really punted Johnson, I believe I would have cheered for him. Life is strange like that! If they had both wrecked, I know I would have cheered! Life isn’t that strange.

Jeff is one of the best drivers on the cicut.A lot of the dislike stemed from an event that happened when he signed his Hendricks contract.
There was a lawsuit against another team and manufacturer, who lost and lost a large chunck of money. The action was sealed but it left bitter feelings for Gordon by fans of the other manufacturer.

Ever see the movie the Movie "Days of Thunder" with Tom Cruise? Jeff is Cole Trickle. The outsider, non Good old boy who can race the hell out of a car. Few haters admit that at 76 wins, and 4 cups he has equaled the stats of Dale sr. Plus Jeff can drive anywhere. Cookie cutter, road course, plate track or short track. It's same way the worls feels about the USA. Always jellous of #1.......

Most think he got it the easy way and didn't pay his dues before he got to winning and winning the championships that he won. He is a very quick learner and I remember him laps down his first year and following DE Sr. every chance he could get. Also 14 DNF's that season of Crash Gordon. He payed some don't think so. I just need someone to boooo and it's him.

clearly a 4 time cup winner doesn't "stink" he's hated for a lot of reasons (I am a huge Gordon fan but I'm going to be honest)
1. some of it is because he keeps winning- as other drivers start to win a lot they get the same thing
2. he was Dale Earnhardt's big rival and most NASCAR fans from that time couldn't identify with Jeff Gordon like they could Earnhardt
3. Yes he can be whinny but they all are like that
4. The best explanation is given by Jeff Foxworthy in his routine called "Jeff Gordon enunciates"

Seems as though people just don't like winners. He came in as a young no one and made it to the top in a very short time. He was beating the good old boys at thier own game and a lot of hardcore fans didn't like that. Turns out, he was the best of the best at that time, even Dale said so. He will win at least another 2 races.
