Not only dropped channels, but we have had nothing but problems, first 3 months, the system was shorted out, causing blackouts. Have a new receiver sitting here, just delivered, to install ourselves.

Wow, sorry to hear about your troubles. I had Dish for about five years and never had any problems. In general, they tend to add channels rather then drop them. Sometimes channels go away, not because of anything Dish is doing, but because the channels are discontinued or changed. I remember being rather upset about the outstanding Discovery Wings becoming the Military Channel.

I got my Dish 500 receiver back in 2000. I got it on one of their "free equipment" programs. I live in an RV and used to set the dish up every time I moved (a lot). No problems. I ran it that way for four years, then took the receiver along with me as a truck driver. It banged around and generally got abused and never had a problem. I mounted the Dish on a PVC pole and when I parked, I attached the pole to the front spot mirror mounts with hose clamps.

I worked, briefly, for DirectTV as a phone support person in Las Vegas. Not a good experience. I'd stick with Dish. DirectTV really struck me as a bit skeevy and not service oriented, by comparison to Dish.

Nowadays, I have a megatravel job, and live in a series of extended stay suites, so I don't subscribe to Dish, but still would if I was a stationary kind of guy. I'd probably upgrade to the DVR. My old freebie receiver still works fine, but DVR is quite cool and handy.

Dish also runs rather obscure channels that DirecTV doesn't touch, like FreeSpeech TV.

I would NOT go with any dish type TV service. (Unless I had a motor home.) For home use, signals fade in many storms, and you need to rent a 'box' for EVERY TV in your house. Unlike regular cable, where all you need is a cable-ready TV.

I think they are oaky. dropping the channel is not really a big deal since we barely watch them eg. ( court tv).

If u having problems with your connection, you should contact them and DN will send someone to fix it.
