Lab/Poodle mixes can love water and can be fairly smart. Some are good with kids, others are not.
However, a breeder should NEVER be paid money for a mutt. If you are interested in a mixed breed dog, check out http://www.petfinder.com
Contrary to what a bad breeder will tell you, they are NOT hypoallergenic and are not necessarily 'stronger' because of hybrid vigor. 99% of these designer dog breeders are breeding dogs that should NOT be bred (meaning health, genetic, and temperament problems) and scamming the general population.
Read the Labrador parent club's statement on these dogs, along with the AKC article, and the other articles linked to. http://thelabradorclub.com/library/labradoodle.html

They are a mixed breed dog of labrador retreivers and poodles. Since they are a mix, there is alot of variability, even among puppies in the same litter. There is no guarantee that they will be hypoallergenic or will not shed no matter what any breeder tells you. Some will have more of a lab coat and some will have more of a poodle coat.
Termperment and behavior vary too - some will behave more like poodles, others more like labs. Both are intelligent breeds.
If you want more certainty, buy a purebred dog from a reputable, responsible breeder and skip the "designer" dog.
Or, go to a shelter and pick out a nice mixed breed dog and you'll be paying far less money than you would from a breeder of a "designer" dog. There are no guarantees of what you will get with a labradoodle just like there are no guarantees with any mixed breed shelter dog. You'll save a lot of money, save a life and get just as nice of a dog.

labradoodles are NOT, let me repeat , are NOT a breed. They are not recognized by the AKC. They are a mutt, but thats not the point, mutts can be very good dogs too. I have heard they are good because they are hypoallergenic. And seeing that labs for the most part have a good disposition and I would suppose so do poodles, the cross from the two would also have a very nice disposition. Most labs love water so its a safe guess that it would also. And I'd say the dog is going to be average for the smartness. Most dogs arn't pure geniuses.

Labradoodles are a mix breed between a labrador and a poodle. They will retain characteristics from each breed, maybe more from one breed than the other, depending on the genes passed on to the pups from parents. One reason for mixing a poodle gene into the mix is to keep the dog from shedding its hair so much. I used to own a lab and even though he was a medium shedder, I always found tons of hair piled in corners of my house. It was annoying. However, I am sure you'll find a labradoodle who loves water, smart and good with kids which are all characteristics of a good lab. Actually I think because of the mixed genes (not purebred), the dog will tend to be smarter. I think it's the best of both world. You should get one. It should be so cute. :-D

they are a mixed breed dog made by breeding an inferior, poor quality labrador retriever to an inferior poor quality unhealthy poodle.. yes, they do shed,,.. the unsrcupulous people who breed these mixed breeds on purpose also charge money for them... BEWARE!! you may consider a lab or a standard poodle from a reputable breeder or maybe even a PORTUGESE WATER DOG,,, you will like them check out the breeds at AKC.ORG good luck

I don't have one, but my next door neighbor has two! They are almost a year old now. They are very smart dogs, they have figured out how to climb on top of their kennal & now wont stay off of it. They are so sweet & friendly, they are bouncy & have tons of energy, they are so playful & happy. I don't know if they like water, or not. They are very cute & love everyone!

Have you not read all the information about designer dogs? Your reasoning for buying a mixed breed mutt is what?

Labradoodle's are a breed, they are good with kid's very smart, and most like water. But I like Goldendoodles better. They are calmer, smarter, and calmer than LABradoodles.
