They have this strange idea that they need to save our souls - think it makes them feel good if they can convert one or save a soul.
Jehovah Witness' don't celebrate Christmas but I think they need to be told that some people do and prefer not to be disturbed by uninvited callers.

Overall I do not believe that Mormon missionaries are pushy. They are of course young and learning, so there are indeed some exceptions. They are out searching for people who are looking for answers and want to know more about God, modern prophets, the purpose of life, the LDS church, etc. I think that you will find more positive experiences with missionaries than not.
As for knocking on doors, the best way to talk with people and teach them is in person. Y!A is not too useful in helping people with religion now is it? Many people would not start investigating on their own, but if they were looking for answers ans someone knocked on their door who had them, they might just let them in.
It is also a growing experience for the missionaries. I can send some missionaries to you if you would like. Is that is being pushy?

Why do people ask questions without paying attention to whether or not the EXACT SAME question has just been asked??!!
*Guess happy hour starts early for me today!*
Edit to maurice: What on Earth are you talking about?? Where do you get your information on Witnesses? You have obviously been misinformed because we DO NOT have a "required" number of people we have to preach to every week, neither do we believe in a paradise Earth simply because heaven is "full." Where do people come up with this stuff? Honestly!
And we most certainly don't preach out of fear! We go door to door because we have a genuine love for people and for the truth of God's Word, the Bible. We are just trying to share the "good news of God's Kingdom" to people who so rarely hear any good news in the troubled world we live in.

This questioner apparently feels more well-informed than Christ Jesus and the Apostles: (Matthew 10:5-14) These twelve Jesus sent forth, giving them these orders: “Do not go off into the road of the nations... instead, go continually to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. As you go, preach, saying, ‘The kingdom of the heavens has drawn near.’ ...When you are entering into the house, greet the household; and if the house is deserving, let the peace you wish it come upon it; but if it is not deserving, let the peace from you return upon you. Wherever anyone does not take you in or listen to your words, on going out of that house or that city shake the dust off your feet. (Acts 20:20) I did not hold back from telling you any of the things that were profitable nor from teaching you publicly and from house to house. (Acts 5:42) From house to house they continued without letup teaching and declaring the good news about the Christ, Jesus Rather than being a personal decision among Jehovah's Witnesses, actually all Christians have been commanded to try and spread the Good News: (Matthew 28:19,20) Go therefore and make disciples of people of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy spirit, teaching them to observe all the things I have commanded you

Ouch there's a lot of hostility out there for Jehovah's witnesses of which i am one . we do go to people's doors with our religion which we believe is in response to Jesus' command in matt 28 :19,20.we don't want to antagonise anyone so if you find us so offensive i apologise about that i suggest you simply ask us not to call - its that simple, we do keep records of those people who have asked not to be called on.i personally do not go out on christmas day because i found that it does seem to annoy people however i know other witnesses who say they find that a lot of householders seem to be particularly nice on christmas day so i guess its hard to call that one .to ice princess you should check out 'mind control ' on wikipedia - current scientific thinking holds that it cant really exist and in a way you yourself are evidence of that - if you were under the influence of mind control why are you not still such and thus still a mormon? you obviously still exercise free will since you are no longer by your own choice a mormon. To maurice - what you said is not true there are no quotas at all regarding how many people we have to talk to ( there are hour quotas for those who volunteer for such - these are called pioneers ) i am under no such rule, however we do try to teach people about the bible because Jesus himself asked his followers to do this matt28:19,20,but this has to be done with a "mild temper and deep respect " - that is a rule.i think you might find that if you actually took a moment to listen to what the bible has to say you might find we had some interesting perspectives on the state of this current system of things.

Nobody is pushing anything. They are trying to share what they know. If Mormon missionaries come to your door, the introduce themselves and say they have a message they would like to share with you. If you don't want to hear it, just politely say that you aren't interested, and the missionaries will say thank you and leave. A lot of people won't ever seek out different religions to learn about, so why not let them come to you? Remember that these are basically kids who are giving up 2 years of their lives -- no school, no jobs, no girlfriends, etc. -- to share with people and to serve people. To help those in need, regardless of interest in the LDS church.
And to the "former Mormon", I'm sorry you felt brainwashed and mind controlled. Sounds like you had some bad experiences. As with anything else, remember that this church is made up of human beings who ARE NOT perfect. Oh, and Mormons don't believe that "everyone else" is going to some fiery pit of Hell.

Funny you should mention that, I was going through "training" to become a Mormom and in their doctrines you are to "share the gospel" of Joseph Smith and I found it to be a little disconforting because I am a rather shy person and would not like to go to other people's homes. But you would not believe how active the mormons are in South America. So be glad that we are here.
They are however a bunch of really nice people. Too bad the religion is borderline with a cult.

We preach as Christ did. It is not just a matter of door to door either. There are other faiths that do so. We are simply offering to share, our right. You may decide to share, or decline, your right.
I have to ask why it would bother you to have someone at your door wishing to discuss the Bible on a day that supposedly is for Jesus.

i was not raised as one of jehovahs witnesses, but as someone who has subsequently become one i have to say that i am in no way brainwashed! i have my own free will and can make my own choices. it is not an easy work for us to do and certainly not a natural work! whether you believe this or not we simply come round because jehovah is going to intervene in mankinds shambolic and very often violent and bloody rulership! (math 24:36-39) we desire to help people but mainly we do it out of love of jehovah and in obedience to the command given by jesus at math 28: 19,20. i have to say i have seen my life improve dramatically in the 17yrs i have associated with jehovahs witnesses and followed jehovahs words in the bible!! if you dont want to listen thats your choice and we respect that, but god is interested in mankind, he see's the wickedness going on and indeed he will bring an end to this immoral, corrupt, evil system of things that we see today whether you agree or not! people think witnesses are crazy but if the majority of you out there are normal then i would like to stay crazy because the normality of this world is craziness to me!!!!!!! people stab, shoot, rape etc NORMALIY!??? sorry but you can keep it!!!!!
