I'm intersted in starting the South Beach Diet. I've had success with Weight Watchers, but I'm bored with it so I want to try something new to stir things up. I lost about 20 lbs on Weight Watchers about a year ago but gained it all back because of the medication I was taking. I'm really short so it takes me a long time and commitment to lose weight. I'm 5 feet even and I weigh 144lbs. I want to get to 115lbs. What would be a good time frame for this and what are your thoughts on the South Beach Diet? TIA

You shouldn't lose more than 2 pounds a week no matter what your size/height is. Use this web site to start tracking everything, they will even help you determine how long it will take you to get to 115 based on your calories and exercise habits. That site also has a whole team/group that is on the South Beach diet that would love to discuss it with you.

My wife and I did SouthBeach for a year and 1/2, until other circumstances forced us off the diet.

I lost over 20 pounds, which is about 8% of my body weight, and I was very happy. My wife lost about the same.

The only drawback that I had was some of those artificial sweeteners caused me noticable loss of memory and concentration ability -- nothing real serious, but a nuisance non-the-less.

I want to go back on SBD, but this time I'll keep off the nutrasweet (the "blue" packet sweetners).

As for you (or anyone), 2 pounds per week is a rapid weight loss. Anything more is dangerous w/o direct care under a physician.

I've used it.. It works very well if you can stick with it.. I'm tall but I lost like 5 pounds the first week and 5 pounds the second.. Thats pretty good, in my opinion.. The diet definitely works, its just kind of a strict diet.. And you have to follow it EXACTLY if you want to lose the weight.. No cheating! Thats why I didn't end up sticking with it.. But when I want to lose some emergency weight, I do go back to it.
