This is kind of funny. This question has come up several times lately.
I would defect from the practices of Lent. Rather sacrifice whatever to show God that you love Him more than anything, even the things you love. And do it in secret, not because the "Church" is doing it. But because you want to personally have that kind of closeness to God.
