That sometimes a guy will just not let a girl go. He can't be with her, but does not want her to be with anyone else. Is this an ego issue? Or is there jealousy because he actually has feelings involved?

It's both an ego thing and jealousy. Also a sign of immaturity.
He may not want you, but hates the thought that other guys will.
Don't let it bother you, it's his problem, not yours.

There are feelings involved and they revolve around his immaturity. It sounds like his ego was bruised and the way he can exact revenge is by manipulating your feelings. The good thing is that you have the control to stop it. Stop acknowledging his attemps to sabotage your relationships. Your reactions to his feelings should be complete detachment. Once you've removed your concern for his feelings from the equation, he might as well try building a wall out of dry sand. Remember, it's his immaturity, so smile and let him watch you walk away.

He probably thinks there is still a chance of getting together. On the other hand, he could just hate the thought that this girl might like some other guy.

Girls aren't the only ones who need closure. The guy has got to know that it's over and it's not going to get started again. If there is the slightest chance that you will get back together a guy won't let go.

he is being shelfish he cares for you enough to not want to let go but not enough to actually care that you are not happy i had a boyfriend like this for almost two years
he would always say he was sorry when i found out he lied to me about things and that he did all these things that he knew would hurt me. i would cry so much and i tried to end it but he knew me so well that he knew that if he did certain things i would get back with him
these men find ways to conrtol you and they want you around cus you make them feel better and it should be that he wants you cus he thinks you are great and he loves who you are
its so hard to get away from these kinds of people but i found that if you ask for help from your friends and parents it gets so much better
i asked my parents to not let him in there house (i was staying with them to get away from my ex fiance) i also wouldnt take his calls and my friends would watch out for me and make sure he wouldnt try to contact me
and after it was finally over i was happy for the first time in 2 years
im sorry you have to deal with a guy like that babe good luck

sometimes it is just that he is selfish. other times it is a con just to see what he can do to make the girl believe that he really wants her back and really doesn't.
