I was raised as a Catholic and attended a private Catholic school for grades 1 - 8. I must say that I received a good education, so good in fact that in 9th grade, in a public school, I had already been taught almost everything that was being in taught. A couple of tests were exactly the same as ones that I had already taken, word for word.
As far as being hidden from the REAL world...I do believe that I was sheltered. I'm sure that my parents had a part in it also but yes, the private, catholic school that I attended did shelter me.
A couple examples....I was born in 1965, I had no idea that the Vietnam war was happening. When I did find out about it, I thought M.A.S.H. was set in Vietnam. I had no idea that there was a war between WWll and Vietnam.
Seems to me that there was some sheltering going on for me not to know about a couple of wars

Simple answer is No, but I don't think that is what you were looking for you wanted reasons. Well me going to a Private school can explain how I know this. First In a private school you experience the people like me who attended through scholarships not through simply having all the money, and you experience the people who are just the rich snobs who get in through the power of the money. That teaches you about how politics work, there are a few people who strive to get there but most just take money and walk away , Bill Clinton. Then you might hear people talk about how there is no drugs in a private school HA HA that is funny, I could walk in to the bathroom in hall F floor 2, room 217 and bye 17 pounds of Anything whenever I would want, not that I did but the possibility was still there. Also a lot of girl there in a way of "breaking away from the system" form into the same, lets just say risque girls as you would experience in a public school. In jest it does not matter if you are organized by a uniform or by your zip code everyone will be who they want to be.

I don't think so. It's not like they live in a bubble, unconscious of anything going on in the world. I teach in a private school and have 2 kids in one and the main differences are class size (16 to 20 per classroom), tougher curriculum, prayer and religious tolerance, parental involvement (too much at times), and fewer/less severe behavior problems.
I think it is worth it to create an environment that is safer and easier to learn in without so many outside distractions. Growing up is hard no matter what...why not give them a really strong educational/moral background?

Yes, in a way they do. A private Christian school (ok, a lot of private Christian schools) where they pray and read the Bible is very different from a public school where they cuss, take the Lord's name in vain, and tell dirty jokes. No, in another way because some children already know about that stuff.

I've sent my son to both. Currently he is in the public school (we are in a very good district) and lately I've been wishing that he was back in private Christian school. The things he learns on the bus are crazy! There weren't many rough kids at the private school...obviously because it cost 6k a year so you had to be decent to send your kids there! The public school has it's share of loser parents who don't care about their kids and when they are in the same class...well...that's that.

What part of the "real world" are you referring to? If you are referring to gangs, drugs, teen sex, foul mouthed kids who disobey and disrupt, fights, teachers who can't or won't teach, school administrations who worry more about thier social agenda than making sure the kids learn to read, then I would have to say, yes.
My child attends a private school and I went to and graduated from one. Not all of the above are absent from the school, but we and got a good education and have lived our lives to show it!

They prevent them to a certain degree to expose themselves easily to drugs and hooliganism, and other teenage dangers.
