93 grand marquis cranks. Can drive for as long as want too. When shut it off and try to recrank it , won't crank, like the battery is dead. Next morning cranks fine. Then the cycle begins.

have the starter tested (when it is acting up) by a reputable shop

We had problems like this many years ago on V8 Chevy's....it's a condition called "heat soak'.
What happens is the heat from the engine causes the armature inside the starter to expand and bind up temporarily not allowing it to spin until it cools down and once it cools down, it works fine. The remedy we used was to remove the starter and send it to a machine shop that could turn down the armature a couple thousands on a lathe in the areas where it might bind up.
I'm not sure if your car came with a heat shield over the starter or not, but another cheaper solution is to have the starter wrapped in "header tape' which insulates it from the engine heat if no heat shield is available. The tape can be purchased at most high-performance shops and can usually be applied with the starter on the vehicle.
Hope this helps, Paul

either your timing is to far advanced or your starter is bad. most likely it's your starter. when the bushings get worn bad enough the heat generatates enough distortion to cuase the starter to bind up and not allow it to turn over. then once it cools down it will turn over again.

Try cleaning the battery terminals and clamps. Often overlooked but sometimes a simple problem
