I took this shot of my daughter and the backlighting to too strong. I love this shot. How do I fix the backlight?

To Nacheese: She has on no makeup except lip gloss and very little mascara. I didn't realize a great hairdo and good accessories makes her a barbie doll.

Am I looking at the correct picture? Because the back lighting doesn't look strong at all. The front lighting is a bit overpowering, in fact. You need some shadows to show form, but the face is almost over-lit.

If the backlighting was too strong, the picture would look more like a silhouette. But if you want to fix it, open it with Photoshop or some other photo editing software. You can tweak the highlight and shadow areas until you get it all one flat, formless shade.

The front lighting is the problem. Her face looks plastic, but I believe that is the trendy look amongst the child fashion photographers. I also don't like the catchlights in her eyes, very odd looking. You can crank up Photoshop and monkey with levels and contrast I guess until you get whatever look you are after. But backlight is not the issue here.
And she does look like a Barbie doll. But if she enjoys it, more power to her.

Almost any photo editing program will allow you to copy and paste the image over the image and erase one of them after. Copy the original to the clipboard, tone down the original, paste the copy over the top of the original, then "erase" the copy background so the original, adjusted, background appears...then save. Using your photo, I did this in about 3 minutes with Photo Impact 8:

There is a free program from download.com that I was playing around with today. It works pretty well for photo editing, is easy, and best of all it is free.

I'll post the link below.

In photography for 40 years, I don't see but one problem to it. I would not have used such heavy jewelry on her, the rest is fine in my mind. You have to let children be children and a bit more natural - that is my opinion.
