depends on the brand and color for most people but for my hair...i've discovered that it doesnt matter how long i leave it in, it still fades in 2 weeks. my hair just won't hold color at all. and ive come to accept it haha

No it doesn't make it "dye more." Actually it depends on your type of hair, the health of your hair. Leaving it on too long will actually give you an alternative color and can dye your scalp, damage your hair as well. And most hair colors loose activating qualities after 45 minutes, meaning after 45 minutes it's just sitting on your head doing nothing. That's why they tell you to apply immediately, depending on brands and if it's a professional product.
having healthy hair is the key, the healthier your hair, the better it reacts to chemical products. already damaged hair, just becomes even worse. eat healthy, drink lots of water for a healthy scalp. healthy scalp, healthy hair.

A lot of times it doesn't make it darker - it just warps the color. Leave it on for no more than five minutes past the recommended time and you should be fine.
Just get a darker shade if that's what you're going for; don't risk leaving it on your hair longer than it says. Good luck!

It may make the hair darker, but it can also damage the hair. Follow the instructions on the box.
