Where were we? as in where was the United States? ok I will answer that...

Make no mistake ok. The Iranians didnt give the UK their people back because they are a bunch of nice fella's.

The Iranians didnt give the UK their people back because Tony Blair is a super-awesome negotiator.

The Iranians gave the UK their people back because the US and all the military power of the US was backing the UK.

The Iranians see the US building up forces in the region. They see 2 carrier battle groups cruising into close proximity with Iran. They see the USS Nimitz on the way as well. They see increased activity from US air craft. They see troops massing in strategic locations within Iraq that one would have to mass troops at in order to invade Iran.

They saw that the US was preparing to attack Iran over this and it scared them. You can say what you want about Bush and his policies but the bottom line is they know Bush is trigger happy and it scares them. They know that a full on military confrontation with the US would completely destroy Iran, despite what Iranian state run TV is saying. There are some people in the Iranian government that I am sure are not morons.
Basically they saw their asses being dangled over a fire, and their whole world about to be taken apart by the US and then all the sudden they got nice.

You want to know why you got your people back? Because G.W. Bush doesnt exactly have the same approach to foreign policy that Jimmy Carter did, you can say what you want about that being good or bad.

You got your people back because the Iranians were scared, and no they werent scared of the UK.

Hey to hell with the Americans mate!!!
Why the hell did they let themselves be taken prisoner without a fight????
They are trained not to give anything other than their name, rank and number. What did they do ??? Let themselves be used as pawns.
If you are in the forces you know these things happen and you are trained not to 'bottle' it.
Our forces are embarrassed by all the way they happily chatted on TV.
What does this say about the British Army, Navy, etc ??
"Oh we are sorry for being bad girl and boys"
To hell with that!!
They were there to do a job and knew the score and they 'bottled' it.
End of story !!!
Now all Iranians think we are a waste of space !!!
So don't even think about trying to blame the Americans or any other country because it was British troops out there and they didn't do their jobs.
Think about it!!!

A Iranian diplomat that was part of Iran's attempt to train and supply Shiites to kill Americans in Iraq was handed back to Iran. It was a prisoner swap.

The U.S. was told by Blair to stay out of it.

A better question would have been what would America have done if 15 of it's troops had been arrested? I think our response, to 'take a tougher position if we can't have them back' won't give any of our service people any confidence should they become POW's. I'm sure America was snickering in the background because essentially they piss all over us and get us to help them out and couldn't give a toss about Britain, the same as every other country doesn't give A toss and worse still we can't stand up for ourselves. Pathetic! This country can't get tough anymore, its so handwringly liberal it makes me puke.

Making sure no more British troops are being captured in Baghdad and in Syria... Look up the link between Syria and their release.

As I watched the news, I heard about your sailors and then right after that story there was a story about two "Carrier Groups" doing "exercises" in the area.
I can't think of any more impressive show of strength that we could have done.

Doing exactly what Tony Blair asked us to do....staying out of it and letting Britain handle it.

Or don't you read the papers and watch the "telly?"

The British government asked the Americans to not get involved and so we didn't. We're allies. We do reasonable things to help each other when asked.

Besides the fact we already sent a ship to help, did the British government ask one time for our help? No so don't blame the US for your government not asking for help.

Good lord, you're as whinny as the US lieberals.
