You need to read the labels before you buy anything and not buy the stuff that contains it. You mentioned cookies and your bread having it so switch to brands that DON'T have it. Read your labels.

The reason it is recommended to limit the drinking of soft drinks is not necessarily only because of the high fructose corn syrup, but also because people are REPLACING much healthier things like water with soft drinks. You're right, high fructose corn syrup is in a lot of things. But it's not a huge deal until you're replacing essential nutrients with it. A lot of people don't even realize that they are actually dehydrated, b/c Americans in general don't drink as much water as they should. The recommendation is around 8 cups a day!

You cut out soft drinks not exclusively because of the corn syrup but because soda is empty calories. There is no nutritional value in soda. If there is corn syrup in other things you eat, hopefully there is some nutrition too. While it would be better to find wheat bread without corn syrup, there are still benefits from eating the bread. Also, try to remember that even if you limit yourself to a soda or two per day you are still consuming thousands of extra calories a week.

You need to cut out everything you can that is processed. Even wheat bread might not be good for you if the flour is processed wheat flour. It has to be whole grain for you to get the nutrients out of it that your body needs. Just cutting out soft drinks isn't necessarily going to keep you healthy. As a general rule: If it has a lot of preservatives in it, it's probably not very healthy for you at all.

honestly its a matter of excessive consumption. Anything in excess is bad for you. carbonated soft drinks have multiple reasons to avoid them besides the high fructose and as another poster stated its essential sugar. neither good nor bad but should be limited in its consumption.
if you cut everything that is bad out of your diet you will basically starve. if you aren't making everything from scratch and growing your own garden.

because soft drinks are VERY HIGH in empty calories. all your getting is sugar. high fructose corn syrup isn't necesarily unhealthy, its just sugar. Excess sugar leads to fat. and yes, like you said, they add sugar to everything. if something has HFCS, dont get too freaked out. its not something taboo like aspartame. just make sure only about 15% or less of your carb calories are coming from simple sugars, and you'll be fine.

there is no high-fructose corn syrup in all natural foods and these are supposed to be the basis for the diet.
processed foods of all type should be consumed at a minimum and the diet should be based on perishable food items. food items with the exception of tuna, nuts, beans, grains, etc. that can be stored on the shelf are not good for the body. the human body is not designed to live off of highly processed food items that are loaded with additives and preservatives.
