I don't give my children choices about a lot of things. They don't get to choose their bedtime, food, websites or tv shows. I monitor it and let them have what I think is appropriate. When they are adults, they can decide things for themselves with my blessings.

May God Bless you.

If a parent actually believes that their religion is true and really matters, then why would they want to offer something false. It's not like ice cream, it's like medicine in most people's view. If your kid had a snake bite, would you just blithely offer her a cheeseburger, a popsicle, and the antidote and then say, "Here you go honey, just pick any one you like."

Of course, you can't ultimately force someone to believe the religion in the end, but if you're serious about the religion [why would you be that religion if you didn't believe it], then you would at least earnestly commend the religion to your children whom you love.

I will allow my children to decide whether they want to choose a religion or not. I was forced into Catholicism for most of my life and HATED it. I am now a Buddhist and have learned that religious belief cannot be forced, my kids will choose when they are ready. I am allowing them exposure to other religions and beliefs.

Are you saying that children are never given a choice? I was raised by Christian parents, but I ALWAYS had a choice. When I started looking for answers, my mom allowed me to do so.
I was never "forced" to become a Christian. I became one of my own free will.

I don't know why some people don't let their children decide on their own. I think it's because they worry about their child's soul and they feel that they're religion is the "right" one. I think that they feel that their child can't make up their own mind, or they're worried about them choosing the wrong path.

My mom let me decide which was the best way for me to go and she never questioned my decisions. I'm the same way now.

Because there are lots of choices that cannot be wisely made by the untutored. One cannot learn why reading is good until *after* one reads.

kids have trouble choosing their cereal.

best option would be to teach, not force, then let them choose on thier own.

for example i was raised catholic, but when my confirmation came i went to research other religons to make sure i wanted to stay catholic.
