Plus size, "voluptuous" (this word is being so misused), full figure, blah blah; it only adds to one thing... a lot of women in America are denying that they are fat. Only when we as a nation realize that we have a problem, is when we will be able to fix it; but repeatedly lying to yourself about your weight does not help anyone.

And a full-figured/voluptuous women is not overweight, these words used to describe sex symbols like Marilyn Monroe and the young Elizabeth Taylor; what gives?

I was just reading an article about this. Fat women are using these terms to make themselves feel better and justify their unhealthy status.

I agree, it's disgusting and people need to wake up and take care of themselves.

Call it what you want, but a waist over 32" for women means you are at higher risk for diabetes, stroke and heart disease. There's nothing beautiful about dying an early death!

Unfortunately, in America the primary focus is on being thin, not being healthy. This is why so many people have such a hard time with it. Because of this, generations of women grow up with major body image issues, which is a psychological problem, and that often translates into physical reality.

If the national conscious could somehow shift from a mindset of being thin to being healthy, a lot of things would fall into place naturally. People go to ridiculous lengths to become thin, and most of them aren't healthy, so ultimately these people fail and give up. When you approach it from a HEALTH perspective, being thin is more incidental as you adopt a healhty lifestyle. It's when a person believes in being healthy that they become healthy, if that makes sense.

There can be many reasons why people aren't more healthy - life situation, laziness, accessibility to healthy food sources, income, etc. There are always things people can do to be more healthy, but if it's hard then people tend to avoid it.

the human body is not designed to be fat, it's that plain and simple. if it was designed to be fat then there would no be so many diseases that are the direct effect of having a high percentage of body fat there would be an increase in the overall health.

we all know that there are definetly some genetic traits that can cause people to store more fat easier than others and conversely make it harder to lose body fat. however we are not seeing people that follow a healthy lifestyle and a low calorie balance diet becoming obese. the majority of people that are seriously overweight and/or obese are following a sedentary lifestyle, high calorie diet based on processed foods then blaming it on the genetics.
