oh just read extra info interesting. well some things for sure, it needs to be realatively tall. because you need to slow it down slowly. also use the paper to create a cone to insure the egg hits in the center of the contraption, hitting offset will colapse it. you may want to consider making two frames... a outer one with the sticks and a inner one with the straws. the inner one would be attached to the outer one with rubber bands. then crupple the extra paper below the inner frame.

Create a structure around the egg using the popsicle sticks and taping them together. This should be like a crystal lattice where you can line the botton with straws. You should also attach the egg to the top of the structure with the rubber bands. Try to keep the egg as far from the bottom of the device as possible.

All the answers so far have assumed you are making a structure to HOLD the egg, which is not what you said. If I understand the question properly, you are going to drop the egg, which will then be CAUGHT by the structure.
Use the sticks to form a 'box', with the string and the paper (rolled or folded into tubes) to support them in position.
Weave a net from the rubber bands to catch the egg.
Let me know how you make out.

Create your catcher in such a way that it collapses or crushes when the egg hits. You also don't want any pointy things (like the edge of a popsicle stick) where the egg might hit them.

You might use the paper like a fireman's net. You might use the rubber bands to help absorb some of the impact energy.

Essentially, you want to stop the egg's motion as slowly as possible.

You need to create a sort of container for your egg so that when you drop the container it will protect the egg. If you suspend the egg, in the middle of your creation, using the rubberbands as the source that will absorb the shock, the egg will survive.

make a crate with the popsicle stics, thake the paper and crumble it up, and tape the top together, so its smooth. Put that in the crate. After, take the straws and line the crate with it. That help?
