Till the apocolypse. Unless maybe if you put a lot of high SPF sunblock on the tattoo, but the sun or a tanning bed will fade it if you don't.

tanning is bad for your skin period but it is also very destructive to your tattoo. sunscreen does not protect your tattoo ink from breaking down. any exposure to UV rays will destroy the ink and over time it will make your tattoo look horrible and faded. the only way to keep your tattoo looking as great as it did the day you got it is to keep it out of the sun. keep it completely covered at all times when out in the sun. if you're not willing to do that then your tattoo will look like crap. it may take 5 years or 15 years but it will happen.

don't go tanning as in a bed because (i'm sure you have heard this 100 times but it is important) it can cause skin cancer severlly, and if you go out to tan in the all natural sun use lots of sunblock, but other than that you really don't have to wait

until you die. even with high spf sunblock heavy exposure to sunlight, and even more to uv in a tanning bed will destroy your tattoo years before it's time.
If you are getting the tattoo for the right reasons then it should be much more important than looking tan, and besides, why court skin cancer if you don't have to.

Wait til it has completely healed and is done peeling/shedding. After I got my first one I went out in the sun and got sunburned and ended up losing about half of my tat. I had to go back and get it filled back in

You can go anytime as long as its covered. after its healed you should put heavy duty sunscreen on it, it will fade the ink if its exposed to too much tanning. Its happened to one of mine.

I got both of mine in FL and I went out as soon as I got out of the tattoo shop. I went swimming and I laid out to get a tan. It didnt do anything to mine. That was 10 years ago. I even got in the ocean that same day. It helped heal it.

I wouldn't recommend it, it might burn and then you'll really get an infection. I would wait until the skin by the tattoo has fully healed.
