If you're intending to break down to scrap metal there are environmental issues regarding disposal of waste. You need a license for this, or use a licensed contractor. As a trader you can't take bits down to the local tip. Sale of second hand parts no problems other than knowing they aren't off stolen car, and consumer issues if defective

This seems an odd question for a mechanic to ask. I thought mechanics all broke cars from time to time, I have. The only license you might need is planning If you do do it Give good service. I suggest before you break a motor give it a good check over so you know that the parts on it are OK. I get so fed up when you ring a breakers yard and they say yes there's one down the bottom of the yard you drive 20 miles to find they haven't got the car or the part is missing of it. Good service will get you a good name and the off shoot is you sometimes get the chance to fit the part and make extra money. Hope you have plenty of space as a breakers yard do take a lot of space

I worked as a breaker for a few months last year for a friend, there is no licence that you need all he did was buy a couple of cars that were on their last legs and took all usable parts off and he sells them through ebay for a living, typically he'll buy a car for £500 and he'll make about £1,500 on top of that price.

Good luck with your venture!

i didn't realise you had to have a licence to dismantle cars for sale of spares and seeing you have an up and running garage are you sure you have the right info as it doesn't sound right to me
