Please help - my outdoor cat (Siamese, 2 year old) was scratched by another male cat. The wounds now appear to be infected and since I am out of work and unable to afford a trip to the vet, I'm desperate to find something over-the-counter or homemade that may help his infection. He didn't eat for two days, but did eat food this morning. He is sleeping a lot and I know the infection may be getting the best of him. I can only hope he heals, but if anybody out there knows something that may help him, I'd be truly grateful. Being an outdoor cat, he is subject to the nasty elements, but he does have a nice shelter, fresh water, real food - all he needs now is antibiotics (which nobody will give me for him) to help him with the infection. Can anybody help? Thank you!!!

Gosh - thanks to all of you for such quick responses!! I wish I could take him to a vet but I simply cannot afford to. I did go to vet and asked. No help. He is eating/drinking again now so maybe he's improving As I mentioned, he is an outdoor cat that I've already tried to adopt out and he didn't take to it. He knows this is his home and he refuses to go to anybody else - not even my husband. Believe me, if I had the money, I would, but I am out of work with no good prospects of returning. I did find a spray at Petsmart that I am hoping I can get on the cat's wound - it does not seem that he will let me touch it. Perhaps since he did eat today, he is feeling better. Maybe all this snow we're getting will keep him sleeping (in his warm house) and will stop him from constantly licking the wound. I did actually see him get into the fight so I know for sure it was the other cat's claws that injured him. Keep advice coming - it helps. Thanks.

I'm sorry about your kitty. But the fact of the matter is that you really need to get him to the vet no matter what it takes.
You have no idea what he could have caught from the other cat.
Not eating for 2 days is a sign of serious infection and not getting him care is risking his life. He could be dehydtated and even die from that since he's not eating.
Please take him to the vet... no matter the cost. He's suffering and deserves better.

There's a reason nobody will give you antibiotics for him. A bunch of things can happen during a cat fight that you can't see. For instance, you may see a scratch and not see a puncture would, and you really don't WANT a puncture would to heal over right away, because a cat's skin will heal before the wound does, and the skin will sort of seal in the infection, resulting in an abcess or worse. Putting neosporin on a bite or puncture wound will just make the skin heal faster, possibly trapping bacteria in the wound. And different antibiotics treat different kinds of bacteria. He's suffering. Most vets will work with you on cost, and I see that someone on this board offered to pay for the care. You need to get him to a vet. If you really care for him. Call the humane society, or call a vet and explain the situation. Otherwise you might as well be deliberately hurting him. And if you do get him through this, get him fixed. Outdoor male cats that aren't fixed will continue to get into fights--that's why their lifespan is so much shorter. There are clinics that will do that for free, as well. In fact, one thought might be to make an appointment for a free neutering and, when you bring him in, show them the wounds--but don't wait. He's suffering and he could die.

Try the above. They give you the credit to pay the vet bill at NO INTEREST. It depends on the bill and how long to pay it off, but that would work for you. Then get a job, any job, and pay it off a little at a time.
I've also heard of imom.org - believe they help with pet expenses, but you have to qualify. If you are totally without income, you may qualify.
Get that cat to a vet!

If you can, Clean it out with fresh water. Used peroxide on it. Clean it out everyday if you can. Since he is eating, he must be feeling better. Don't stop him from cleaning it himself. Cat saliva has alot of natural antibiotic in it--not as good as prescription, but it will do. Cleaning is a good sign that he is feeling better. But try to clean it everyday and use neosporin or something like that on it.

Try to ask Vet Tech in Yahoo Answers she helped me too. I can't help I can only tell you that except from water she needs specific medicines, my cat had inflections too. If the cat sleeps in a basket put a clean towel try to sit next to her try to persuade her to be in her basket. Sorry I can't help but try Vet Tech.

I realize you are probably attached to this cat, but perhaps it would be kinder to find him a new home with someone who can afford to pay his medical bills. I know it is not easy, but would you rather he was alive and well with someone else, or uncomfortable and possibly seriously ill with you. Its totally your decision, but I no what I would do

quick!! clean areas with soapy water rinse , pour peroxcide over it. let this rest for awhile {couple hours rinse with warm water } let dry then put neosporeum on it. just keep up with this routine and see if it clears up. it should unless too far gone. also try your humane society. they some times will help with injured animals.

Please contact a reputable, responsible rescue group -- if you really want to adopt your cat out they can take it and rush it to the vet and then foster it until they can find a home for it.
If you cannot afford to take care of a cat please do not keep one.
your cat is suffering because you cannot afford its care.
