Since the FDA has not issued any official cause of death for dogs and cats affected by the recalled foods, I would stay away from any dog or cat food that has wheat or wheat gluten whether or not it is from a recalled lot. I would also avoid any doggie gravy products or gravied food.
Over a hundred brands were recalled, but Purina Pro Plan was not one of them. However, look at the ingredients listed on the can or bag.
Common fillers for dog food are wheat, corn and soy. None are good for dogs. Many have BHA and BHT for preservatives which are toxic presevatives, and the meat source is questionable.
Though dog foods of even the cheapest brands may not kill a dog and batches produced now may not be on the recall list anymore, to me it would be like feeding a kid a diet of big macs and fries cooked in recycled oils. The kid would live, some kids would not seem to be affected, but most would have health problems in time associated to their diet.
You might want to consider a partial raw diet, like giving your dog a few chicken wings a day (raw only!) or necks- if your dog doesn't gulp down his food without chewing.
Also, some things you can add to your dogs food that are healthy:
Dan Active yogurt
Pumpkin Pie Filling (great for upset stomach or digestive problems)
Table scraps in moderation won't hurt your dog either as long as you avoid giving too much of it or any foods which are toxic or not easily digested by dogs like: grapes, garlic, onions, corn.
If your dog is weighty, avoid gravies and pieces of fat from meat, bacon, red meat, etc.

Stay away from anything wet to start with. Along with all the other brands, they recalled DRY CAT food from Hill's Science Diet last week. Although the DRY DOG food, is what I feed Isabella (8 months).
I am switching today to Chicken Soup Puppy Food. I think it's called Chicken Soup for the puppy lover....
Pedigree wasn't recalled either.

You should consult your local grocer to see which of them they have pulled and, call your vet for the rest. Id also suggest going on line and doing a dog food recall search.
