I am newly married as of 2006 and due to circumstances in our backgrounds wanted to file married filing separately for federal and married filing jointly for state. I don't know if I can do that in OK or at all.

Oklahoma state income tax returns generally must use the same filing status as the federal return. If you file separately for your federal returns, you would have to do the same for your state returns.

See Page 7 of the Form 511 instructions linked below for more info.

Depends on the state.

Most states say that you have to file with the same status.

Check your state's income tax return's instructions.

The regulation says you'll be legally married to document a joint return. considering the fact that, a minimum of at present, comparable intercourse marriages are not known on the federal point, a matching-intercourse couple can't meet the requirement to be legally married for federal applications.

I would definitely file the same way on both. If you are afraid that one of you owes a debt then I would suggest filing an injured spouse form.

In most states, you must use the same filing status but some do allow you to use different ones.

So.....it depends on what state that you are in.
