I've allways wondered this because the three wise men discovered the birth of the christ in the stars, and even followed a star to find him.Why would they be called wise if astronomy is wrong.

to the best of my knowledge, Christians are not forbidded to study astronomy...LOL...
they are however cautioned against studying ASTROLOGY (as a means to predicting the future and the like)

have a happy day!

Ah, I was wondering what you meant when you said astronomy. Astronomy is the study of the stars and other celestial objects.

Astrology involves witchcraft and other spiritual things that Christians are ordered not to dabble with. Horoscopes are an example. In the Old Testament, witches were thrown out by King David and even killed. There are many verses throughout the Old and New Testament that strictly warn against witchcraft. This is because witchcraft is a method used by Satan and his demons to trick people. Witchcraft is real, it does work, and it will do horrible things to you.

So, astrology is forbidden to real, practicing Christians because it is a work of the devil and we are strictly ordered not to mess with it.

You have astronomy confused with astrology.
The first is science, the second is myth.
The so-called 'wise men' were actually "magi", or, ASTROLOGERs.

Gods plan is written in the stars/sky.
Perhaps some church rules forbid this study; I am non-denominational Christian,
and certainly the Bible doesn't forbid it.
Of course, you aren't to make a religion out of it, but certainly it is a facinating and very
Biblical study.
Now this is not to say that I believe in horoscopes; they are ridiculous - but they
are just done in fun, so no big deal.
Ever since 1979 when my horoscope on the radio was: "if you feel like you're on a treadmill to nowhere, you're probably right",
uh, I haven't bothered with them!
Seriously though, if you worship them or try to make a religion out of them, or count on them to tell your future and use it instead of a relationship with God, then thats a whole different critter, and that would be a problem for sure.

First of all, they were using the stars as a map...i dont know why you would think anything different about that. Second of all, astronomy can be considered either a study of the heavens (constellations, galaxies, etc) or considered something used to predict the future. I dont believe God wants us to predict the future. He condemned fortune tellers in the Bible (read Acts) - fortune telling goes hand in hand with witchcraft, etc and evil that we dont need to be letting into our lives. We dont need to know the future, God has a plan for each and every person and we should be relying on him for that, not someone that can tell me what my astrological sign means.

Where did you get the idea that Christians are forbidden to study astronomy? Astronomy is a science, and there are many Christian astronomers. Now belief in astrology on the other hand is against Christian teachings, and I believe you might be thinking of that instead of astronomy. True, astronomy states things that are contrary to Biblical teaching, but it is strictly a science. God does not frown on science. He gave us science. Christians can study any science. It is up to us to combine our knowledge of science with our common sense about what the Bible says.

Funny you should ask that. Three wise men who were astrologers divined from looking at the stars that a great king was about to be born. So steeped were they in their belief of astrology that they set out on a treacherous and long journey to look for that king. They used the stars to guide them and at the end of the journey found one poor and common family and their new born son in a filthy stable. So convinced were they that they gave gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. Oh by the way the baby came to be called Jesus Christ, which wasn't his original name but a Greek title meaning son of God. His name like so much about him and what he stood for has been rewritten for the convenience of the church and its followers.

I have never heard of any Christians that are forbidden to study astronomy. I do know many who stay away from astrology.

Dear alvarez,

Christians are not forbidden to study astronomy. I think you mean astrology.

Incidently, there were not 3 wise men that came to seek Jesus. It was a great company because traveling was dangerous in small groups. However, they did bring 3 different gifts to Lord Jesus.

I hope this will help you.

Sailors use the stars to navigate. That has to do with astronomy, not astrology.
