Supposedly it helps your body hydrated so the body can flush out the waste built-up in your body and intestines.
Drinking too little water can cause constipation, but the 8 glass of water a day is a myth. If interested, see the links below about the myth.

Recent research has shown that not everyone needs 8 glasses of water a day. It makes sense to me cause not everyone is the same size. How can a 6 foot 250lb guy need the same amount of water as 5'3" 125lb girl?
Water is good for you because your body needs it to perform basic cellular functions. You also need to replace the water you lose through breathing, sweating and going to the bathroom.
You probably don't need 8 glasses a day unless you're really big or you get lots of exercise. You also get a lot more water from your food than you think you do. You should keep a bottle of water handy to drink whenever you're thirsty and don't sweat the number of glasses you have.

Hello.
To keep it simple, it is RECOMMENDED that you take 6-8 glasses (cups) of water daily.
Reasons:
As it is written, ..."Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the Kingdom of God." John 3:5
---->(Note: "Nor will they say, 'See here!' or 'See there!' For indeed, the kingdom of God is within you." Luke 17:21)
Water is 3/4 of the universe, 3/4 of the human body, 3/4 of all that is.
Water changes and is released from the body so you need to keep the proportions in equilateral.
There are only 4 elements in your body- water, salt, soda, iodine. These are the basic elements, they make all the rest. Edgar Cayce Reading 2533-6
It cleans and eliminates poisons from the body.
When you eat, the food value enters the stomach immediately the stomach becomes a storehouse and/or medicine chest, creating all elements necessary for proper digestion. When you drink water prior to eating, it keeps it to the more near normal reactions.
It keeps you hydrated.
Hope that answers your question. Have a great day. God bless.
John 3:12 "If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you heavenly things?

The truth is you need to drink enough water to let your body flush out toxins and replenish water lost through dry air, sweating, etc...
8 glasses of water is not a hard and fast rule. Some of the water consumption can be gained from the foods you eat. The fact is most Americans are continually dehydrated.
Your environment and activity level will determine how much water you actually need.

eight glasses of water is good for you because it helps keep your body hydrated. If your body becomes dehydrated it cannot function properly. Your blood pressure falls, the kidneys start to malfunction and then waste products begin building up in your kidneys. They are toxic and can cause toxic kidney syndrome. This can lead to kidney failure. Not a good thing because you would have to go on dialysis if it becomes severe enough. On the other side of this sometimes you can drink too much water and then you are flushing all of the important electrolytes out of your body and this is not good either. So just be consistant and know your own body. Drink when you are thirsty, after you have worked out, after you have been in the heat, had diarrhea, been vomiting and so on.

Actually you are supposed to take your body weight and half it and that is how many ounces of water you should drink (i.e. 140 lbs/2 = 70lbs = 70 oz of water)
It is to help you keep hydrated and being hydrated is important because:
- it keeps you alert
- you are less likely to mistake hunger and thirst
- helps you loose weight (see above)
- you clense toxins from your body
- you have better skin

Your body needs water. If you don't give it to it, it's going to keep yours, aka cellulite.
Also, it helps drain all the toxins, clean your kidneys, that sort of things. Drink the max you can :)

water keeps you hydrated. depending on what you do, it varies the amount of water u need. ie, work out, need more water. sit and watch tv all day, dont need that much water.
just don't drink too much water, otherwise it will thin your blood, and u could die.
