There is a new diet coke called diet coke plus, it has vitamins and minerals in it. Also it doesnt have citric acid in it, but it does have phosphoric acid. I thought it was only citric acid that was bad for you teeth.....but are they both bad?
thanks!

Most sodas contain sugar (unless diet), various additives and have a low pH. Besides the sugars potential to cause decay, it really doesn't matter what acidic product is in the soda, citric acid, phosphoric acid or any acid. What's important is how low is the pH. The lower the pH, the more acidic. The presence of these acids in beverages is important because their ability to chelate calcium at higher pHs means they can be very erosive to dental enamel. The link below is very scientific, but informative about the various sodas and which can cause the most damage.

Oh well, I drink about 5 cans a day and I'm fine. I think that drinking anything carbonated isn't good for teeth (including carbonated water) but it's definitely better than drinking Fanta or Sprite or even diluting orange as it doesn't have sugar. I think the caffeine free one (gold can) also is good and I don't notice any taste difference. If you like the taste of real coke then the Zero one is good (black can). As long as you drink some water as well and don't only get your liquid from diet coke and have a healthy diet I don't think you have anything to worry about.

Neither is bad. In fact, phosphoric acid is beneficial, as teeth are calcium phosphate and the phosphoric acid reduces the solubility of calcium phosphate. The only acid in soda (and it is present in all of them) that could be bad for teeth is the carbonic acid from the dissolved carbon dioxide.

Yes it's bad for your teeth. But then again, what ISN'T bad for your teeth? Drink whatever you want. Just remember to brush (or at least rinse) afterwards.

Coke in general is bad for you. Diet coke is worse than regular coke.

Carbonic Acid makes your teeth and bones brittle. Anything carbonated is bad. Nasty (but tastey) stuff!

Coca-Cola has huge amount of sugar in them and it will positively leach your teeth out of your mouth if you drink over one can a day.
