I don't think that people considering drinking alcoholic beverages wrong per se; it's some of the behavior associated with drinking that's wrong.
People object to public drunkeness, with good reason. Drunks are usually obnoxious and can be dangerous. They're gross to be around.
People object to drinking alcoholic beverages when the person's drinking causes hardship to others who depend on them: e.g., a parent who gets drunk and in so doing creates hardship or danger for their kids, or who spends money on drink when their kids need something else.
People object to drinking when it puts others in danger, as happens when someone drinks and drives.
People object to having to pick up the bill for problems relating to drinking, like destruction of property caused by people who have been drinking, or supporting people on welfare because their alcoholism prevents them from getting a job, or requires that they be hospitalized at public expense.
But nobody I know of objects to people enjoying a quiet glass of wine with their dinner, or a beer while watching a sporting event; or having a cocktail or two at a bar with friends once in a while.
It isn't drinking people object to, it's drinking to excess, bad behavior caused by or justified by drinking, or inappropriate drinking.

Actually, drinking is NOT frowned upon by me, unless the people drinking get drunk or near it. I, personally, do not drink, because all I need to do is have a capful of wine to GET all woozy feeling. Most people consider a glass of wine with a full meal, a nice thing to have. (I really wish I could DO this). Jesus turned water into wine at the wedding in the Bible. He did not consider that wrong at all. It is the effect of drinking that people do frown upon. Getting drunk is NOT something that causes people to do nice things. Some drinkers drink all too often and do BAD things. These people usually feel as though they are in good condition to drive, to make decisions, etc.. These people treat their children really badly, in most cases. They might not realize it, at all. As a counselor, I have seen so many horrible things happen after people did drink too much. I know of an infant girl whose head was bashed into a wall and crushed, killing her. We all know horrible stories of drinking and driving. My wish is that people would remember that IF you can afford to drink, you CAN afford to take the time to get a designated driver to take you home, or you CAN afford a taxi, if you are alone.

I don't think it is people can still drink just about anywhere they want to restaurants, sporting events, college and beaches. I wish it were frowned upon more because I feel to much drinking is going on. Some people don't know when to call it quits they are the ones that intrude on other people trying to enjoy themselves.

I am an alcoholic. I do not drive and drink, I pay my bills and keep my job. I drink everyday. I don't think it is wrong at all. People who don't drink considerate it wrong. I know I bad for my health. I figure when its my time, its my time. And when that happens...then no one has to worry about me being a drunk anymore. Bad reasoning? YES. I live alone so I worry about no one nor am I hurting anyone. (except myself)
Drink on.

Drinking is not wrong, it's just a choice that someone makes. If someone wants to have a good time every once and a while then I think that they should be free to do that. Even if someone wants to be an alcoholic I think that's there choice, and as long as they're not driving, or hurting anyone.

It is not considered wrong. Drinking to excess is considered wrong. You don't get locked up for 1 drink but 10 can kill.

Some people believe drinking is inherently wrong; to me, it's only wrong if you drink to the point that you harm yourself or someone else.

Drinking to excess is wrong, drinking moderately is fine, drinking a little is actually good for you and strongly approved of. Can I buy you a drink, babe?
