So, how do I, or do I - ask him if he wants to go out one night for some drinks? Like I said - we always have a great time. But, I don't want him to think that I'm trying to revive this dead-ended relationship. My true intentions are just to have fun as friends. He doesn't date anyone and neither do I.

Well, from expierience, i know that if you want to be friends with this guy, then you're going to have to work hard. Make sure you go out on group nights, you know , a bunch of friends, make it so you and him aren't alone togethor, cause he will take that as you trying to get back togethor. Eventually, if your friends decide one day that they dont want to go out, tell him about it and ask if he would like for you guys to go as just friends.
