You can -
1)Make sure there is a good reputable boarding facility in your area.

2) contact a REALLY Responsible friend

3)Find a pet sitter

I'm glad you are thinking ahead of time about this -- your cats need the best care they can get during this time.

The boarding kennel-- does it have a good reputation? Is it clean? Smelly? Dirty? Crowded? Full of CAGES????Is the staff professional? What is your FIRST impression of it? Will the cats be in CAGES all day? How will the cats get recreation, playtime, and good quality care? Which VET does this boarding kennel use in case the cats get sick???

Your friend --- is s/he REALLY and TRULY reliable? Will friend make sure your cats are safe and well-cared for? Will friend be sure that the cats don't run out the door and get lost?

Will your friend have your written permission to take the cat(s) to the vet in case one or both of them get sick or injured?

What happens if you friend does not show up? Your cats could starve.

Or if your friend gets sick - and no one knows that your friend is taking care of 2 cats? If so, then WHO will take care fo them? They could starve.

How much does a licensed and bonded pet sitter charge in your area to cat-sit? S/he could come by every OTHER day, if expense is problem, but I bet the charge is less than a boarding fee -- AND the cats will be MUCH less stressed becuz they will be in their own home.

Go to the National Association of Pet Sitters web page
http://www.petsitters.org/
and on the upper Left Hand Side, enter your zip code to find out who pet sits in your area.

Get in touch with more than oneperson if possible and then they will come over (at different times) to meet you and your kitties. YOU will also be able to judge that person's character and personality and get a good idea if this is a good person to pet sit for you!

Also, get references from others who have used the petsitters' services.

If you interview a pet sitter or two right now, your cats will get to know that person before-hand. Your pet sitter can also contact you every few days while you are away to let you know how your cats are doing. Pet sitter will also need a signed form froj you (most pet sitters have this form) in case your pet(s) get sick and need to go to the vet's.

Once you have made arrangements for your cats, you will enjoy your vacation even more!

Hands down, have a friend come by everyday, or every other day to check, feed and scoop. As everyone has already suggested, cats do not like to moved out of their environment. Not only that, but there is always a risk of you cats picking up some disease or illness when it comes in contact or close proximity to other animals. If you have a caring, responsible friend, then have him/her look after your cats.

If you have a friend who would be willing to come by every day or every other day to check on the cats, feed them, play with them, etc. I would definitely suggest that. It will be easier on the cats because they don't adjust well to new environments. It will probably be very stressful for them to be in a kennel. Having them at home will probably give you less to worry about on your trip as well. Good luck & have fun!

I've had cats for over 20 years, I travel alot (and I mean alot) and I always have a friend feed them for me, when I had a lot of pets I paid a professional pet minder. Cat's hate to be moved from their home environment. It's less stressful for them to leave them at home and have somebody come in and feed them.

Oh specific! all the time lol, it makes me bounce up with fright and exhibit sense sorry approximately (cats call) and then I realize that's barely between the cats rubber balls that i'm stepping on. it is so humorous while that occurs! lol

We use a petsitting service so the boys can be in their own home while we are away. They feed them, change their litter, and spend time playing with them. The cats love them.
