I read that too about the best coffee is at McDonalds according to consumer reports. (i also heard that about Dunkin Donuts)
Everyone might assume that Starbucks has the best coffee because it is shoved down our throats (no pun intended) since they are everywhere. But for regular like coffee, coffee as in non espresso drinks. McDonalds is better you can even smell the difference. As far as the best, I like Barefoot Coffee Roasters because they grind all the beans themselves on the spot rather than having ground coffee, with only one house coffee to offer and one featured one like Sbux has.

Tanner's Coffee!!! Everyone I know who's been there at least once says it beats Starbuck's, Coffee Bean, Gloria Jean's and all other coffee chains.
It's an LA thing... They're located in Culver City, Playa Del Rey, and Santa Monica here in sunny California.

There are some good coffee clubs that deliver right to your door that have exceptional coffees that your grocery doesn't carry. Here is a fun site I found that you might like.
