I had my navel pierced recently and I just got some sea salt to soak it with. Is this kind okay? Morton Sea Salt (Fine Salt). It says it does not supply Iodide. What mixture do i need to use with this sea salt and how long should I hold it onto my piercing? I just wanted to check about this first. Thanks!

Oh, I forgot to mention...my piercer told me to not move my piercing at all, even when cleaning it. Is that okay too?

I didn't use sea salt, although my piercer said I could if I wanted. I personally used Bactine and applied it with a q-tip about 2 or 3 times a day. I also used anti bacterial soap, like Dial, for showers for about a month (or until it heals). As for the moving it, my piercer told me to rotate the ring while at least 5 times around once a day...hurt like hell at first, but he said I had to. I had no problems and have a great piercing.

Never rotate or move your jewelry, it destroys the healing tissue and you start the healing process all over again.

The sea salt you have is fine. Mix 1/8 tsp sea salt to 8oz warm water. Soak the piercing for about 10 mins 2-3 times each day. You can gently remove any build up after the soak. Other than that, leave it alone.

,First off you have to move your piercing otherwise skin will grow around it and it will be stuck and very pain full so when ever your hands are clean just like 2-3 times a day move your piercing up and down so it won't stick. Also sea salt never worked for me I am using bactine, I got my belly button pierced 3 weeks ago and bactine is the first thing my piercer recommended.

yes. mix 1/4 of a teaspoon with 8 0z of distilled water.

i empty out a 16 oz water bottle. i fill it up with 2, 1/4 teaspoons and fill it up with distilled water, shake it up so its there when i need it to be..

pour some in a shot glass of a cup place it on your piercing and lay down.. you need to heat up the solution.. and hold it on your piercing for 15 minutes at a time once a day..

yes you are NOT supposed to touch or move around you piercing. it will only itrritate your piercing and possibly injur it...

sea salt soaks aid in the healing process, fight and prevent infections and also makse your piercings feel better :)

i love sea salt soaks.

but dont touch it!

dont use bactine... bactine says "nto intended for puncture wonds" what do you think a piercing is??

the warm water will draw out the lymph (discahrge) thst is the stuff that gets your jewelry crusty looking.. the warm water increases the circulation around your piercing and draw otu the lymph and loosen those crustites!

I've had my navel piercing for almost 8 yrs now & I never used the salt. I just made sure everytime i was in the shower i cleansed it well with the antibacterical soft soap & after the shower with a q-tip applied the bactine so keep it from gettin infected. And it worked GREAT. No infections, no scars, no anything. When i had gone back 6 months later to change the loop, the guy who pierced me was so impressed & was glad to call it a "chad piercing" (which was the guys name) Trust me on this. All you need the Anti-Bacterial soft soap & Bactine!

The salt you have is fine to use. Mix 1/2 tspn of seasalt with 6 oz. of water. Hold on your navel for 15 minutes. Do not use any petroleum based products, like bacetracin. Since we are dealing with the navel, that tends to be a dark place that can hold moisture, a petroleum based product makes an ideal breeding ground for bacteria. You should be cleaning it with Bactine a few times a day.

Also, whenever I cleaned mine, I turned the jewelry, my piercer told me it was important.

Lastly, when mine was healing, I'd set my blow dryer on the cool setting after getting out of the shower, and dried my navel with it. Keeping it dry is a big factor while you're healing.

Just the sea salt on it's own is fine. make sure after you do the sea salt, that you use A&D ointment or bacitracin. I've had my piercing for almost 5 years. I used sea salt and bacitracin and it works great..I was able to take the hoop out ofter a month and change to a bar. ALWAYS keep a ring in there. DO NOT leave it open or it will close. My sister took hers out for an xray (she got the piercing 2 years ago) and left it out for a day, it's closed and now she has to have it redone.
