The most likely source for that phrase is Galatians 6:7, "Whatever a man sows, that will he reap".

As the above responders have said, there have been a number of times that "illustration" has been used. Another occasion is when the Apostle Paul said that to tell us that we can expect our actions to have consequences. I don't believe he had any individual in mind. -Galatians 6:7
It makes sense it would be used often since people in those days were largely agricultural and would understand the point being made.
If I'm not mistaken Abraham did not to go his wife's handmaiden. Sarah presented her handmaiden TO Abraham because she realized she could not give him a son. It was a number of years later that God heard Sarah's prayers for a child and Isaac was born to them.
Abraham fully trusted in God in all things. It is why he left his home in the prosperous City of Uz to live in tents in the wilderness when God asked it of him. It is why he was willing to sacrifice Isaac though God had promised him that his "SEED" would bless the earth. And it is why Abraham came to be called God's "friend".

Job
4:8 Even as I have seen, they that plow iniquity, and sow wickedness, reap the same.
Matthew
6:26 Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?
25:26 His lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not strawed:

But Ishmael, if you were to study it out is the father of the muslim religion. So I think we are reaping what he sowed.

I hate to have to tell you this. but it far more likely that it is from the Law of Karma or Astrology and the planet Saturn since Astrology and Hinduism are both much much older than the all of the Abraham related religions.

Perhaps it is an allusion to agriculture?
You can't expect a rose to grow from a stink-weed seed.
