Do religious persons have more respect for the planet and try to keep it clean and green because it's seen as God's creation? Or do atheists beat them at it because of a more social conscience?

Is it the same? What do you do and what is your faith orientation?

I would say religious people but not in the way you mean it. I would say Wiccans (and maybe Buddhist) are more environmentally friendly. Wiccans are very earth centered and anything that has a belief structure based on nature would be more concerned about the environment. Buddhist since it's more of a philosophy regarding what goes around comes around, it would easily follow that when you torture the planet by littering that karma will come back around on you.

Both have a belief that the energies you put out into the world come back on you. Wiccan it comes back three times as strong so if you are hurting the planet, it would come back three times as bad on you. Either seems like it would be more environmentally friendly than athiest or christ believers....

Though thats just a generalization. I don't really think respect has anything to do with the environment. Some people just care more about how they leave things for the future generations than other people. Regardless of religion.

Edit--Atheist believe in living life b/c its all you have. Thats not taking it for granted. Not believing that life lasts forever has nothing to do with believing you should just wait around for death.

I'm not sure really. I've recently been thinking that maybe some religious nut might get seriously offended on here by Atheistic comments, and might go and root out local Atheists and shoot them all. I certainly wouldn't wanna be the guy who made him snap. That's another one of my 'many good reasons for tolerance'. Religious views are a personal thing. To insult a religion is to insult each person who follows it, and personal insults can make people vengeful. Saying that, though, there IS such a thing as being TOO respectful. I wouldn't let people have all their own way. It's a give and take world. I will respect you, you must respect me. If that respect does not happen then the best course of action is to get away from it. I live in the UK. There's big issues right now that the government is too soft on Muslims. The law is the law of the country, not the religion, so their religious Sharia law should not be welcomed. If they respect our country and our laws, then we should be tolerant to them. I personally like having them here. Diversity is a good healthy thing to have. If they choose not to, then the government SHOULD be well within its rights to remove them. Problem is, it isn't. ((((hugs))))

There is certainly a majority in the evangelical christian faith that are very much against any environmental movement.

Why save the earth when you are looking forward to Armageddon and the Rapture

I am a reborn christian and mu opinion is this : I believe that when you KNOW GOD, you will just be a better human being in general. So, the answer should be Yes, we will try to keep the Lord's creation in tact. And pray for those who just are so lost......because we want everybody to know what it feels like to be spiritual fulfulled.

Atheists have no reason to be environmental friendly just like they take LIFE for granted.

Christianity establishes accountability for every action we do on this earth.
