This Pastor has guts!! To risk saying what needs to be said......
Thought you might enjoy this interesting prayer given in Kansas at the opening session of their Senate. It seems prayer still upsets some people. When Minister Joe Wright was asked to open the new session of the Kansas Senate, everyone was expecting the usual generalities, but this is what they heard:
"Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask your forgiveness and to seek your direction and guidance. We know Your Word says, 'Woe to those who call evil good,' but that is exactly what we have done. We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and reversed our values.
We have exploited the poor and called it the lottery.
We have rewarded laziness and called it welfare.
We have killed our unborn and called it choice.
We have shot abortionists and called it justifiable.
We have neglected to discipline our children and called it building self esteem.
We have abused power and called it politics.

We have abused power and called it politics.
We have coveted our neighbor's possessions and called it ambition.
We have polluted the air with profanity and pornography and called it freedom of expression.
We have ridiculed the time-honored values of our forefathers and called it enlightenment.
Search us, Oh, God, and know our hearts today; cleanse us from every sin and set us free.
Amen!"
The response was immediate. A number of legislators walked out during the prayer in protest. In 6 short weeks, Central Christian Church, where Rev. Wright is pastor, logged more than 5,000 phone calls with only 47 of those calls responding negatively. The church is now receiving international requests for copies of this prayer from India , Africa and Korea .
Commentator Paul Harvey aired this prayer on his radio program, "The Rest of the Story," and received a larger response to this program than any other he has ever aired.
With the Lord's help, may this prayer s

Nice prayer & so true. And especially I like this portion:
"We have polluted the air with profanity and pornography and called it freedom of expression..."
And yes,it sounds so true and real for this Internet today. We all do have the right to inhale clean air and with that we've a deep RESPONSIBILTY for our young users too who're plentifull now a days online and they DESERVE a toxic free environment to grow, learn and develop as quality individuals. We simply can't steal it from them. If our younger generations won't have the required charcter then what else would we be looking forward to as our future (??) as an individual, as a society and as a world in general ?? Could we expect our world to be a safe & quality place without making them quality individuals first ??Is it possible ??
This is our responsibilty to protect them and to provide them a clean, pollution free environment and I strongly believe that this should be a shared responsibilty and realized by all - not just you, me or another person but by all as parents, as individuals and as a society. For our pleasure we simply can't make an environment so venomous and call it a freedom of expression. And btw what sort of expression is that, that requires to sacrifice so many innocent, untouched, clean lives which are yet to grow and develop ?? This I'm sure, is definitely doesn't amount to "Live and let live". Can we have freedom at the expense of others ?? Is this what a true freedom is all about ?? With freedom comes a huge sense of responsibilty too and now is the time we all should realize this!

He asked for forgiveness, then followed it up with six judgemental statements. This is ^missing the mark^ which is the original definition of the word ^ sin ^. He might as well have ended the prayer with re-asking for more forgiveness. Since he used the word ^we^ , he includes himself in his judgement and that is especially harmful. God`s love energy cannot flow through when there is resistance. It is time to allow the light to shine.
Love to all.

Just to clarify... WIC is not welfare... it is a program that helps mothers feed and learn to care for and help with questions... but not welfare... everyone needs to understand that some people DO abuse the welfare situation tho... we have people who come to our state JUST BECAUSE of the welfare they can get... and they are not even from this country!
AMEN that this guy had the call to speak out for God and against what americans 'tolerate' as ok

We as a rustic can all forgive in ours hearts, yet no own who lived via 9/11 will EVER forget the tragic pictures or actuality of what happened that unfavourable day and no will forget who did it...its not a race or creed... its a small team of TERRORIST that murdered those hundreds of those that day. the only one that needs to permit the race element circulate (i think of) is you.....and specific i will desire for our u . s . on on the present time! The isn't any extra desirable potential than the potential of prayer!

Thank you for sharing that, Kayboff. Sometimes I feel like I am the only one who feels that way. Just for the record, I don't believe that every case of welfare is laziness, but as for the rest of his statements, amen.

Speechless ...I am....Amazingly beautiful...
I was shocked when they removed the Lords Prayer as a daily routine while I was still in school...
The praying pupils were allowed to go outside for five minutes and say the LORDS PRAYER AS IT WASN'T ALLOWED IN CLASS...
Which direction are we going in ...???
I'm appalled !!!.....

First, thank you for asking "May I," you are a shining example of the appropriate way to share a prayer....
This isn't EXACTLY what Joe Wright said, but it's not far.... here's more info:

The poor have a choice to purchase lottery tickets. That's not exploitation. They choose to give away their $1 or not.
There are some people on welfare who aren't lazy, ya know. That's a stereotype, and while it can be true, it is not universally true.
A cluster of cells does not a baby make.
Who called it justifiable? Not the courts, but maybe religious anti-abortion zealots.
Discipline can take many forms. You don't need to whip your kids to discipline them. What's it your business if someone disciplines their kids your way or not?
I'll agree on the last one. Politicians, in general, suck.

Not sure it is appropriate for a prayer, but they are all valid points. I think it's best to ask forgiveness for oneself, and not for the country as a whole. Although I guess if it's appropriate to ask for blessings and give thanks for the country as a whole, asking forgiveness fits in there too.
