Yes, a psychiatrist is a medical doctor. They must go to medical school as other doctors do and then take psychiatry as their specialty just as a cardiolologist or a neurologist would do. Notice that a psychiatrist most often does not counsel so much as they mediacate while a psychologist counsels but cannot (I believe) prescribe medication.

Yes. A psychiatrist is a M.D. (medical doctor). A psychologist is a Ph.D. (doctor of philosophy). A psychiatrist goes to medical school like every other M.D., trains in a hospital and does their residency there, too. Ph.D.s get a Bachelors, then a Masters then their Doctorate degrees. They never go to medical school.

Before a person become psychiatrist he has to pass through the medical education. then pass the entrance exams then he can start his/her further studies in psychiatrist. so in the terms of degree he is doctor of medicine but he is practicing in mental health sub speciality. it doent necessarily means that he/she cant treat other kinds of physical illness but he is not practising it since long time once he in psychiatry.
