I'm a college student trying to figure out taxes. I have college work study and being, technically, a grant, I'm questioning whether I have to file that income? I would think so, but I've heard different stories. I don't want to be audited or anything like that. Can someone please help?

As long as you receive a W2 or 1099 MISC for your college work study, you have to file taxes.

Work study isn't usually categorized as a grant, although it can be classified as exempt from social security under some circumstances.

If you got a W-2, you include it on your tax return.

Work study is considered income and you MUST report it on your tax return. You should have gotten a W-2 from your school.
