Only doctors are allowed to issue prescriptions so why are they advertised? Do people actually believe they should tell the doctors what to prescribe and isn't this dangerous to believe? Find it quite ridiculous.

What's even more ridiculous is that by the end of the commercial - you have no idea what the drug is supposed to be used for! All you get is:

"Check with your doctor to see if ___ is right for you".

how absurd is that!

Because people see doctors as authority figures and the prescription companies are using this as a way for selling drugs... It encourages patients to run to their doctors with Ha Ha I know as much as you do and think they are gaining some sort of control over their medical treatment... they'll insist because the ads tout the benefits, that it's the right drug for them... However, did you ever listen to the ads that list the side effects, now WHO would want to take a drug which is also "advertised" on t.v. to potentially give you a rash or a heart attack? I do notice that a lot of the "drugs" they used to advertise on t.v. for lack of sexual potency are not seen much anymore on local networks... gotta go, gotta go, gotta go, go, go... is the one for the bladder problem... wonder why they don't advertize tampax, sanitary pads, laxatives, etc... they're in the same class! Personally, I ignore medical ads, if those drug companies want to waste their money that way, it's a lot better than the ad with Carl's Junior and the bikini queen that used to be on. Now THAT was ridiculous!

because of the fact a lot of people in basic terms take what a physician provides to them without truly understanding all the ideas. If a shopper sees an advert for a drugs they have not tried earlier and their modern-day comparable drugs isn't working that properly then they are in a position to invite their surgeon for the form they observed on television or in mag advert's and if the surgeon thinks it is going to paintings they are going to prescribe it. New drugs value a brilliant style of money to invent and bring in the process the 1st few years and with lots of drugs on the marketplace they desire a aggressive component so they promote.

What is our society influenced by??? TV. It's not about 'safe' things anymore. Drug companies want to make money so they advertise their drugs on TV. A dear friend of mine is a physician and is constantly asked about these TV drugs. Sadly, there are many doctors who aren't concerned about the well being of their patients and they will prescibe them- what they don't say on TV is a lot of the times these drug companies have deals with the doctors as well so they too make money. My friend never would do this. But I'll tell you what he told me....what do you call the guy who finishes last in his medical class? A doctor.

There you have it!

Don't you think the prescription medicine industry is trying to get people to request these medicines from their doctors? Quite the marketing ploy. When we read about any disorder we start counting up how many of those symptoms we have. We start to think that we have the disorder. If the fix for the disorder is right in front of us, maybe we'll ask for it.

When I see the Lunesta commercials, I always think those people would sleep better without that giant moth flapping around them!

In most part of the world it is illegal to advertise prescription drugs directly to consumers. US is an exception. It is dangerous and patients tend to demand a specific drug based just on the ad. Pharmaceutical lobby in the congress prevents it from changing it anytime soon.

The drug companies assume you'll browbeat your doctor into prescribing the drug, and he'll be spineless enough to cave. It's a sad state of affairs only made worse by this: They wouldn't spend the money on it if the above didn't happen.

There must be money in it or they wouldn't advertise. I'm sure that people go to the Dr's and demand certain scripts. I think they should be made illegal but I'm sure that would be a hell of a court battle. People are basically prescribing for themselves.

The government is trying to keep us doped on on pills so we don't know what's really going on. I'm sick of every 3rd commerical I C on TV being for a stupid PILL too. ESP the ones for Valtrex (Herpes) or Diflucan (Yeast Infections) . Oh yes I really want to watch that during lunch or dinner. Finally I could care less about some skank having herpes. HER fault !

I'll tell you that I am so disgusted with all of the sicknesses they keep throwing at us that I stopped watching certain channels. I come over to Answers and try to help people, rather than count the symptoms.
