For example, 3 kids not 2, or 5 kids not 4?

Perhaps they think that an odd number would consistently leave one child out. Don't buy it - I came from a home with three children, me being the middle child, and I STILL felt left out at times! The oldest kids got to do so much more than I did because of her age, and the youngest got so much more stuff because he was the baby! Even, odd -- there's always going to be some issue or reason why a child feels left out. I have one - perfect number, but he's spoiled rotten and knows it!

Im sorry i dont have an answer for this cause ive always thought the opposite!!! cause kids tend to pair up as friends and i love the buddy system!! Now i have 3 kids and i would never give one back to have two, but i would prefer to have 4 (which we would have had my first daughter lived...) cause that way there are always enough buddys to go around!! if you get any good answers on the odd thing lemme know, maybe i can see the bright side of having only three beautiful children!

I've only ever heard the opposite from people. I know one person in particular comes to mind that was adamant about having an even number. She always said it was so that the kids would be able to pair off and play and no one would be the "odd man out."

I always heard the oppostite, to have them in even numbers so there isn't an odd man out situation. But I am having baby number three in May and thats it, no more babies.

I think its because children naturally form their "play groups" within the family and if two siblings are fighting, they have others to look to for comfort. Or at least that's the way it worked in my family. But then, we had 4. LOL

This is the first time I have heard of this, but for nothing, I have 3 children. It worked for me.
