Check some old thrift shops for old books and candelabras - but check with the library first about open flames. If they do not allow open flames, maybe make centerpieces out of old books? Use each table to cover a masterpiece -- like one table could be called, A Tale of Two Cities, etc... and instead of rose petals, you can surround the books with old quills for writing that you can pick up a craft shop.
Good luck!

Well, you can get the old books at thrift stores, I wouldn't spend alot of $$ on them. Look for the candelabras at thrift stores as well, I wouldn't want them all matchy-matchy in this case, I think it would look better if you had a variety.
Check with your location about the open flame, but yes, it does sound very nice. I wouldn't go overboard with the library theme though, at least not for a wedding.

If you have time to make them you could take some old books and use them to display photos or memories of you and the groom. Also if you are handing out party gifts handmade bookmarks are a nice touch. Candles my not be the best choice for being on top of books instead look at a dollar store or a second hand store for all different types of reading lights. These could be placed as the center piece with picture or wedding quotes under them. Also with the library being the setting for the wedding you may want to have an old style journal for your guest to write messages/best wishes in to you. This is normally done with a camcorder but writing it in the book gives each person time to make their message special to you and your husband. There are tons of things that you can do and with the web there are endless possiblities of what you can find.

I had a friend who got married in a library and they had some great ideas,
they used those old fashioned book check out cards as invitations keeping the them going through the RSVP cards as well.
I think having the candleabras ontop of books may make them unstable, they will be very high on their own and after people start having fun and knock a book that good be a disaster. I do like the idea of using the books but maybe instead of candleabras use pillare candles that have a more stable base.
There are lots of other ideas you can incorporate, try naming your tables after famous authors instead of using humbers.
Good luck!

If the candelabras don't have open flames, they would probably be nice. Otherwise, it could present a fire hazard and you would drip wax over some really nice old books.

the idea is great. i would have the candelabras be the same, or basically the same but a few different touch. maybe the color and what they are made of but the design different- it would add character.

Youll need to find out if your recepting site allows open flames - many do not. And require the candle flame be surrounded by glass, wire, etc.
Otherwise great idea.
