I'm ashamed of all of us, as I sense we are no longer fighting the good fight. Are we now so jaded that we can't even be bothered to correct the use of the capital A for atheist, or even the much more drastic "athiest" delusion?
Oh don't think I'm trying to let myself off the hook here, I'm just as much a sinner as anyone else. I've let at least two go tonight alone.
But are we on a slippery slope here? First it's the little things, but how long before we stop pointing out that atheists can be very spiritual and have a keen interest in religion, or that "theory" has a specific meaning in scientific nomenclature which doesn't necessarily mean it isn't accepted as "fact"?
You know they're just trying to wear us down, but we must be strong!

Traveller I don't close myself off to anything, you're making the classic assumption that "atheist" means more than just not believing in god(s). It doesn't. I believe in lots of unprovable stuff, I share my house with a spirit, I've even been known to meditate. I would surely go literally insane very quickly if I tried to understand, let alone unravel, the logic of religion. There's no place for logic in religion - it's all about faith and belief, and I can't have faith in what I don't believe.

While the Christians celebrate Holy Week, the "Christians" celebrate Holier-than-thou Week. They're extra impervious to reason.

i'm under the effect that maximum atheist, at leas those i understand, do no longer flow around attempting to make human beings exchange there ideals. the subject is equipped in while people who do have a keenness to alter others ideals fail to renowned others particularly, and people who do no longer hardly have the enthusiasm to chat up for or against atheism. Therefor, we get the two % of loudmouthed evangelistic atheists (lots of which look to have published an answer to this question) and the ninety 8 % genuine looking human beings. Of the former classification, they are of course greater herd, preaching logical ideals yet remaining as dogmatically closed minded because of the fact the evangelistic non secular (who share the subject of the atheist in that a small % make something apear unreasonable) consequently you have this small conflict between the two undemanding, the two close minded persons giving a foul call to the two factors of an unimportant argument. It does no longer make experience, yet we would desire to continually relies upon that some atheist and a few non secular human beings carry their ideals blindly, without the ability to pay attention or understand opposing viewpoints. Atheism has grow to be a faith, faith has grow to be a blindness. The atheist pontificate open mindedness and are close minded, the non secular pontificate love yet viciously attack different view factors, and something of human type watches in unhappy inflammation on the fake air of magnitude the two factors exhibit in there indefinite battles of witlessness. I desire we could get alongside, as for me, i admire and settle for actually everyone. i will see the information ins all areas, and have self assurance that there is a organic form called spirituality wherein I a am loose to in basic terms love and attempt to locate information. perchance i'm greater developed than people who argue over no longer something and contrition their ideals, perchance i'm no longer sensible sufficient to understand there small conflict, i understand that I even have the prejudice for my self that would desire to make me vulnerable to have self assurance the former. whether it is not substantial. To me, neither ingredient is physically powerful because of the fact every physique who has the information and the information in touch in an enlightened sort of thinking does no longer slump to insolence. perchance sooner or later we are able to all merely get alongside.

I continue to be strong, but sometimes it's just not worth arguing with "believers" because no matter what you say their retorts are always the same. One gets tired of repeating oneself constantly..... especially when the opposing side is so ignorant that they will never see why you have chosen your way of life. They only see their way as the right way & they don't even TRY to understand anything outside of their little boxes.
As for the capitalization of the A in Atheist..... I never thought about that.... But from now on I intend to use it. :)

I've been debating religion and philosophy forum after forum for ears now. I have found that the little things truly don't matter, because Theists don't care about them. To get through to them, you must speak to them on their level. The Christians on this forum ask questions about God and Catholicism that I can answer using my studies of Catholic Theology, and it feels very good to be able to offer an answer that they can accept while still not believing in God. Remember that this is a Question and Answer forum, not a debate forum.
On another note, atheism is a dead end. True objective thought and scientific analysis will always lead to agnosticism or some form of Deism.
You have to stop seeing this as a fight, and stop imagining yourself as a defender. You must learn to see them as people who may potentially accept our help, or people who will not accept our help no matter what.

What would happen if an athiest were to meditate into silence, letting go of the logic that tries to unravel religious dogma, and instead be open to all possibilities? Maybe nothing would happen, but maybe not. The search (with a willingness to be open) is what is important. Please don't close yourself off to the mysterious because it does not follow worldly logic.

We should not capitalize the word atheist. There shouldn't even a word "atheist." After all do we have words for people who don't believe that Elvis is still alive; or a word for people who don't believe aliens are abducting our cows; or a word for people who don't believe in the tooth fairy? Atheism is nothing more than the noises rational people make in the presence of the delusional.

Perhaps a few too many a-listers have been playing the drinking game for real.
Personally, I've had a few too many Good Christians in my immediate life to risk getting overly riled by virtual X-men here. Sometimes we have to pick our battles.
