Did you realize christianity has evolved?
While early christian church leaders used the threat of death to silence people like Galileo, now they have been foced to adapt and practice "young earth science" in order to try to sustain belief.
Isn't that interesting?

Dog sneeze: can you cite a reference for that? All I can find is that Galileo was threatened with death by Catholic Bishops...

"Young Earth Science" is an attempt to dispute the geological age of the planet, and keep the earth at the young age of 6000 years. Google the grand Canyon and Young Earth Science... it's interesting.

Not only that, but it's given rise to new species of Christianity: Anglicans, Lutherans, Calvinists.
One could construct a Christian phylogeny pretty easily.

Galileo was actually supported by the Pope and his court and opposed only by the Ptolemaic philosophers at the University of Pisa. Things changed when Galileo mocked the Pope in book form.
Roman Catholicism also endorses evolution.
[edit]
Maffeo Barberini was an accomplished man of letters, who published several volumes of verse. Upon Galileo' s return to Florence, in 1610, Barberini came to admire Galileo' s intelligence and sharp wit. During a court dinner, in 1611, at which Galileo defended his view on floating bodies, Barberini supported Galileo against Cardinal Gonzaga. From this point, their patron-client relationship flourished until it was undone in 1633. Upon Barberini' s ascendance of the papal throne, in 1623, Galileo came to Rome and had six interviews with the new Pope. It was at these meetings that Galileo was given permission to write about the Copernican theory, as long as he treated it as a hypothesis. After the publication of Galileo' s Dialogue Concerning the Two Chief Systems of the World, in 1632, the patronage relationship was broken. It appears that the Pope never forgave Galileo for putting the argument of God's omnipotence (the argument he himelf had put to Galileo in 1623) in the mouth of Simplicio, the staunch Aristotelian whose arguments had been systematically destroyed in the previous 400-odd pages. At any rate, the Pope resisted all efforts to have Galileo pardoned.

Please tell me that dewcoons isnt serious....
Since when is the earth a flat sphere? Last time I checked, it was a 3 dimensional object... Science never taught that the earth was flat - but you do well to ignore the several passages in the Bible that describe earth as flat, and instead pick only the one single mention of it being a flat sphere - which is still wrong in the end... Also, while paradigms might change, the basic way that scientific experiements are carried out and record has not changed since it began. Again, youre wrong.
And these people think they are clever??

The literalists like to assume that their texts are static. What they don't realize is how significantly the translations and interpretations have changed through time.
To say otherwise is to say that Christianity is on life-support in a vegetative state. Change is a fundamental requirement of life.

Christianity has not changed. The agruements they have to debunk have. So of course when you ask a different questions, the Chrisitans will give a different answer.
While science has changed (such as it use to teach, contrary to the Bible, that the world was flat), the Bible has not changed. Science has since caught up with scripture and accepted that the earth is a sphere.

It is interesting. Literacy has a major part to due with that. Since the canalization of the Bible, Its all there so nothing changed except for understanding and interpretation.
However the theory of evolution has been modified and changed.

Christianity has twisted, altered, added to, and deleted from the intended message of the man it is suppose to worship, Jesus.
