My 8 week old kitten has a biting problem, she likes to bite my face and ears (she doesn't bother my feet or hands). When she is biting she is usually purring and kneading me with her paws. I don't want to stop her from seeking affection from me but the biting has to stop! Any suggestions? I've tried telling her no and moving her away from me but that has had no success.

She is trying to suckle you. It is a sign of affection and comfort, although sometimes a bit painful! You can try using a spay bottle, if you don't mind getting wet! But the best way to teach her that it is not acceptable is to blow on her nose, just a little puff of air. She won't like it, and will learn to stop biting.

This means she thinks of you are her mother. My cat is almost six years old and she is still kneading and biting me! The kitten is just showing affection and they do this to their mother all the time! Play with the kitten when she does this, but I'm not sure if it'll work.

Good Luck!

The biting that your experiencing while she is purring and kneading are cat kisses. A cat can not pucker its lips to kiss so this is how they do it. When your cat does it, just pull away so she doesn't get a good bite, but that's about all you can do. Your cat loves you and wants to give you kisses.

I had an eight week old kitten that was doing the same thing.
the kitten just misses mom. try playing with them when they do this and get them soft toys to play with too. In about another 3-4 weeks they will loose thier baby teeth, so in a way they are teething right now too. But just keep your kitten occupied on something else when it goes to bite you.

That is so cute & funny. Loved everyones answers for you. My cat nuzzles up againts me every night and does the purring & kneading thing too, only he suckles his own leg. He gets a little group of fur all standing up & just has a 'purrrfectly' grand old time.... It really looks silly, but I just think if THAT makes him happy & content, then so what, it's not hurting a thing......

The biting and kneading indicate the kittem thinks of you as her mother. She is emulating the kneading and suckling of her days with her real mother and it is actually a very great compliment to you. She trusts you very much. Cradle her head and give her your little finger and she'll suckle on that instead. Mine is four years old and when he is really happy he sits on my chest and kneds my shirt while chewing on a button.

She's giving you love bites and means no harm. My boys do the same when they want more attention.
