Ok, my friend is having a problem. shes a smart, athletic, and good looking 19 yr old. she hasnt had a bf for quite a while and she blames it on the fact that shes really quiet. i try to explain to her that she just looks uninterested in guys so they leave her alone but she continually puts herself down and says shes never going to find the right guy. so guys, is being shy really a turn off or does it just make that person difficult to approach? and what advice could i give her to help her be more open to ppl and get a bf?

If she is putting herself down and is not approachable then she sounds too pessimistic for me. I am not interested in women that need constant reassurance. Women like that need you to be their counselor more than their boyfriend. I like upbeat, positive women.

Must guys, despite the way we act, are very insecure. We fear rejection and embarrasment above all things. When we see a girl that is shy, we do not think she is shy, we think that breed of girl has been extinc for years. What we see is a girl that is un-interested and would crush us in heart bit if we make a move. We preffer a girl that send us a signal, however subtle, that she is interested, that we have a chance.
Reality is, we are cowards and are afraid of being rejected by your friend, But remember, there is someone for everyone, and I am sure your friend will be fine.

Even if the girl is interested in a guy, being shy, she won't show it. And guys will chase after girls that show more interest in them. It's easier on them because the won't have to work as hard to get the girl to like them since she already does. But tell her that being shy isn't a bad thing. Guys will eventually learn that those that you have to work for are better than those that are easy to come by. She is who she is and she shouldn't change but I feel she'll eventually out grow her shyness. She'll find herself. :)

first, there are guys who like shy girls. yes, its endearing.

okay. your friend needs to look for a guy who shares her interests. it could be anything- music, books, games, movies- anything. then they could work up a conversation....

that could work.

shyness does make people difficult to approach, because most people (read "guys") do not want to break through any type of barrier- let alone a girl's barrier. they always want it wide open and ready. work on that.

Shy is sweet, but if I try to talk to a girl and she isn't able to look me in the eye and smile, I'm going to walk away real soon. She needs to be able to at least do that or she will be lonely for a long time.
