The very best places to find info on the "unpublished" trails of Linville Gorge are the yahoo group linvillegorge, and http://www.linvillegorge.net

I have not found info on "unpublished" trails at any other site!

You need to stick to the main trails in that area . There is a road that runs through the mountains Old NC Highway 105 .. It runs from Lake James in Burke County all the way to the Wisemans View on the Blue Ridge parkway. There is parking spots along that road and the trais are marked. Old unmarked trails in those mountains get severly overgrown with Rhodedendron and Mountain laurel. They are impenitrable thickets and very unpleasant traversing. Its a dangerous remote area so stay on the trails that are marked.

There is a Forestry Office on Hwy 40 exit 90 ( Lake James Nebo exit) they have maps for all the trails in the area. I am not sure of the phone number to the office but they do have maps.

If you have any questions you can e mail me I know the area pretty well. The trails on maps can be over grown also . They may be marked but if they are not maintained yearly they are overgrown and not a pleasure to hike on.

The Road I am telling you about has several trails that are maintained and you can acess most all parts of the gorge from those trails.

If they are unpublished trails, you will probably need to call the local forestry office of some of the backpacking stores in the area.
