Are the lamps helping? If so, there would be no reason to discontinue using them. Some nightlights have a softer, dimmer light, but still accomplish the same purpose, if the lamps are too bright. Best wishes, mate.

I have known people with such a sleeping difficulty.
One person sleeps with a TV on, and the sound low.
Another person runs an electric fan overnight.
Others use nightlights, or radio playing.
There is a device, electrical that produces what is called "white noise" for use in blocking sounds. (it sounds like a TV that is on between stations).
You may find that sleeping in a larger room is less difficult for you.

If some of these things are not helpful, I would suggest you see a Counselor or Dr. concerning dealing with your fears.
