Of course it matters... I don't like pioneer or sony for amps. In most cases in car audio you get what you pay for. If you are looking on the cheaper side of things then I would have to suggest either HiFonics or Power Acoustik. Those are 2 brands that are cheaper and are pretty good, With HiFonics they are a little over rated (example - if it says 2000 watts its more like 1600). But over all a very good amp for the price
BTW: the amp you posted for 1200 watts for $107.... again you get what you pay for.... I wouldn't waste the money

amps are very tricky. what cheap brands know is that the bigger the number they can put on there box, the more amps there going to sell. what they dont tell you is that "power" they claim there amp can make is for a very very short period of time, and is at like 18 volts, which your car doesnt make. this is just one example of how they can cheat you.
also amps can really help your overall sound quality. but some amps do better then others. for example i wasnt happy with the sound i was getting out of my $1,000 front speakers. i switched from a Kicker amp to a Kenwood Excelon amp, and the SQ changed dramtically.
I wouldnt buy a cheap amp, and i wouldnt buy an amp from Best Buy, or Circuit City. sure they have a good warrenty, but its kinda like the piont Chris Farley makes in Tommy Boy. if you want me to take a dump in a box and give you a good warrenty i will, i've got free time. but for your sound quality's sake you might want to consider buying a quality product from a private audio shop. here are some brands i recomend
Kenwood Excelon
Pioneer Premier
Boston Acoustics
Diamond Audio
MB Quart
good luck

Brand Always Matters....
There Are Different Qualities In Different Brands
Some Have Higher Watts But Dont Have Higher THD, this makes your sound unclear, minor distortions at higher frequencies occur, which make the sound itchy, on the other hand Less Watts Less THD, this makes the sound more clear but it isnt loud as much as the others.
e.g JBL is a good choice for Components and Rear Speakers
While Kenwood ,Sony And Pioneer Are Good For Subwoofers especially Pioneer.
The More You, the good the sound is, dont forget you gotta have good speakers 4 way or 5 way...for optimum sound.....

Yes, it matters greatly. An amp from Pioneer, Sony, Alpine, Kenwood, Infinity will last longer, sound cleaner, and give realistic power ratings. Cheap brands will not. Also, you should never buy an amp based only on "watts". Cheap amps are almost always rated on "Peak" power/wattage. That means nothing & is pure hype. You want to buy an amp based upon it's per-channel "rms" (continuous) wattage, across the broadest frequency range (20 - 20,000 Hz), and the lowest THD distortion (less than 1% for car audio is fine).
Good Luck

if you pop open the amp from rockford fosgate compared to a walmart scoshe they are in no way the same. look at the size of capicitors and quality of the componets. the rockford fosgates are about an 1-1/2" to 2" compared to 3/4" with the scoche. brand matters big time. that amp is prob the most important element of a system. cheap no names are not even close.

As long as you go with a name brand, it shouldn't matter. The main thing is the specifications of the amp. Things like power, but make sure you are looking at the same number. There is a big difference in ratings, some rate in peak, while other rate in RMS (root mean squared). Also look at things like THD (total harmonic distortion) lower is better.
Good luck

Do you have call sort audio gadget? in case you desire to place mutually an low-fee gadget flow with off sort. in case you think of there is not any longer a distinction there is. i could heavily examine specifications on amp and speaker (in particular RMS watt) and experience them up. the subject with affordable priced amps is they are affordable for a reason. If it is high quality or quantity?

Look for CEA-2006 compliant power specs. If you're comparing two amplifiers, you can't look at peak or max ratings; you need to compare RMS specs, and CEA-2006 ratings mean that they've been tested using identical parameters. If the CEA-2006 power ratings are the same between two different amps, then one's not likely to sound better than the other, regardless of brand name. Of course you still need to look at other features like built-in crossover settings and impedance capability so that the amplifier is matched to your speakers.

What seperates amplifiers is the testing method to determine output power. Any amp that isn't CEA-2006 compliant will fall under a guessing game of what your getting.
Always look for this when purchasing an amplifier.
