My finest advice if you've never been to a casino is to stay away from it. Now, you do whatever you want, it's your life. Good luck, anyway...

I've made more money on blackjack than the slots. The slots are tricky because obviously it's all about being on the right machine at the right time. I find night to be the best time for slots, people have been playing them all day and they tend to pay out more. Craps is a good game to play. You can usually find a low limit table during the day, and many more at night. You don't lose your money as quickly as other games. Always check with the casino too to see if there are any slot tournaments or something because it's usually a low fee to play and you have a shot at quite a bit of money. I also recommend signing up for their player's card. You can collect points and earn money back, or money towards dinner or stuff like that. If you're gonna play anyway, why not try to get something back. I frequent the Canadian casinos and my strategy is always set a limit on how much I will spend. Never take all of your money with you, it's easy to say just one more 20 and I'm done, well that turns into 40 or 60. Spread your money out for the days you're there and just don't expect to win anything, that way you'll be happy if you do, but won't be too bummed out if you don't win. Either way, have fun, if you stop having fun, you need to leave. Trust me.

$500 is a pretty hefty bankroll. The nationwide average of what people lose in a casino per visit is well under $100.

Look at your $500 bankroll as your entertainment money. You go to a movie, and spend $20, and come back with nothing. But you were entertained. (Maybe). Same thing with gambling.

If this is your first time in a casino, and you are not educated in table games, stick with the slots. The payback really isn't as bad as people think.... in Atlantic City it's around 92%, (more or less depending upon the denomination you are playing.) If you want a better chance at coming home with some real winnings, stick to the .25 , .50 and $ slots. They have better paybacks than the penny and nickel video slots.
(But those can entertain you for HOURS.)
Good luck!

First: Consider that gambling is fun entertainment, and not a money making endeavor. All casino games where you play against the casino have odds in the house's favor. Period. There are no games that you can win at for the long haul.

So take your $500 and go with the intention of spending that money in the fun activity that is casino gambling, and convince yourself that you are going to be okay with losing it all. Then, if you have any left to bring home, you can consider that your winnings.

That being said, the poker room is the only place in a casino where you play against other players, and not against the house. So, if you've studied the game and play well, you can be profitable at it in the long haul. But, even the world's best poker players still have losing sessions. And, for a vacation, sitting at a poker table for hours, isn't much fun.

Just go to the casino and enjoy the experience. Their are really no games where you can plan on winning money the games with the best odds are blackjack & craps, the worst odds are roulette & the slot machines but they are all fun so try them all if you can, also get a players card when you first get there, it is free & maybe they will give you something for your efforts. GOOD LUCK

Slot machines are the choice of beginners because it requires no knowledge of gambling. Insert your money, push the button, and wait to find out that you are a non-winner.

I have heard that craps has the best theoretical odds for the player, but I have no idea how to play so the odds would be massively in favor of the house.
